I was told by the PO that this was dealer installed upholstery. I've seen only one other reference on the forums about this possibly being done. @mechnizer mentioned he thought he'd seen another 40 with dealer upholstery before.

Uncommon? I'm thinking I want it back to black.

no, if the truck spends any time in Phoenix or elsewhere in the sun, you want cloth rather than the black vinyl that you burn yourself on

Fair point.

My Mini is black faux leather and gets hot, but it's not unbearable with the right apparel.

My Miatas were cloth now that you mention it. Duh.

Thinking I should end this thread and kick off a new one now for the restoration. Any objections?

Yep. New thread.

Really sorry about Hank1. Funny how quickly you (we all) feel like this is a band of brothers to share your joys and sorrows with. Nice methinks.

Can't wait to see Hank2 up close. If the upholstery doesn't smell - it looks pretty cool (and will be cooler than the vinyl).

keep in mind, the orangey color was stock in some years

Orange was in the early 60s. I would go original black or charcoal grey but get duck canvas covers for when you have the top off IMHO.

Congratulations on a beige 40!

One of my closest friends lost his dog to a car yesterday. Dogs have a way with us humans, dont they? Last night, those of us who loved Callie got together and spoiled our dogs in her honor.

Enjoy the new 2 you 40. I find the name you chose is perfect.

Its for reals now! :D

Wow great thread and congrats on your new ride! Can't wait to see you post about how you love driving your own 40! Good luck!

PS--Sorry to hear about your loss. :(

Nice score Sypd! We chatted a while back. I am glad to hear you got yours...
And it looks wonderful my friend!
Give Angie a pat on the back. That kind of support is very important.
You folks are in for a pile of fun...

Finally got a chance to see how well the tailgate fit the inside the ambulance door opening. Would still think about using a tailgate hinges on the driver's side so any extra holes would be hidden behind the spare tire. I measure a different set of ambulance doors, barn doors and tailgate then last time. All were right at 41 1/4". I compared a early and late tailgates. Both were the same.

Gotcha! That's great info. I was just thinking the other day about asking if you'd had a chance to look. Thanks!

I have patience, and it seems that whether pursuing a new cruiser or restoring one, this is an invaluable quality.

OMG, that is from post #3. Maybe subconsciously you knew what was to come.
