Chris,
The only recommendation I have for tree service is Maloney's
706-291-8348. None of them are cheap:frown:

True that. THe two we need to have taken down are right there by the driveway and pretty close to the house on that down hill slope. That close to the house there is no way I am going to do it!

Well the truck is still in the body shop but it allowed me to get the tailgate finished - finally. Check it!

The tailgate cables are from a 72-80 something Blazer. They are a little over 22" long and were only about $20 for the pair. I figure trying to make something out of cable would have not been worth the bones.

At the top I cut the bracket off and an angle after I took the pic so they do not look so burly.

So tomorrow I am going to start blasting the small stuff and continue to wait on the blasted Nissan to get back form the shop.

In other news, the guy that was going to cut down our trees has not materialized. I am considering getting another quote.

NOICE tailgate!

Those sharp square corners at the top front edge of the angle iron you used to reinforce the sides look like a nice place to catch your hand while loading or unloading something...

I do not disagree, but am way ahead of you. Thought the same thing and I cut them like this after I took the pics:

Update:
The Nissan is still in the shop. I was told that Nissan discontinued the roof panel and the body shop was unable to find one. I found one last night on-line.

Anywho - I strapped the frame to the roof of my work car and load up the other large bits and took them to my sandblaster. I should have them back today. I started blasting the small bits myself in the cabinet and got about a third thru that stuff. One more day of that and POR will go on.

I will have to wait to get the tub done until I can transport the thing. In the meantime, I am going to reassemble the frame and get it rolling.

Transport the tub on the finished frame. You can hold it on with four bolts well enough for travel, I did this for several trips with no ill effects...

Great idea - if I had something to pull it with
40 won't make it that far and has no hitch yet. Nissan is still brokered.

Freakin' rain! two years of drought in GA and now 5 days straight of rain on my sand blaster. More rain today and in the forecast and the DD is still in the body shop. :meh:

Surprise! Sandblaster was not in the rain today so I brought all the big bits home and :princess: and I hit it with the zinc phosphate. It is happily drying - and flashing in my basement. POR tomorrow night.

What are you using for the zinc phosphate and how is that process to do?

Well, they say it is really not necessary after sand blasting but I figure POR15 is an expensive PITA so why not do the extra steps to ensure a clean prepped surface.

I wash the metal with Marine Clean and then rinse with water then spray it with Metal Etcher and keep it wet for 15 minutes (30 if the metal is rusty) then rinse again. When everything is dry, lay down two coats of POR15 and w/i 24 hours top coat with chassis black.

POR15, Inc. - Stop Rust Permanently - Repair Gas & Fuel Tanks has all the info. There is probably a cheaper source for the prep steps but there are also coupons available online.

The stuff is all indoors and ready for POR tonight.

Chris,
You are smart to be taking the time with the surface prep. When I sand blasted my trailer, I did a cursory surface prep and it has developed numerous spots of poorly adhered paint. I should not have rushed; now I have to fix the bad spots. You will still be happy with your work several years from now.

You mean when I finish??
If that was not meant as a pwn it still was a good one!

Last Night :princess: and I layed down t2 coats of POR-15

And on my way back from ATL today i stopped in Marietta and picked up $5 worth of dry ice to try to remove the undercoating from the fenders before blasting...

The trick was to let it sit and be in complete contact with the surface of the ice. then I chipped it right off with a 7 in 1 tool. It still took some elbow grease but only took about an hour.

Bad news for the day is that the wife may be getting sick again and she found a nail in the side wall on her car. Since she is traveling by herself this weekend she went to Sams and is gonna drop $400 on a new set for the Acorn. Sucks but we were due soon. I think we have 50,000 on the hybrid.

Time to go lay down some Chassis Black.
