Made a little progress tonight. I skated out of work a little after 5...

Got the receiver welded in after removing the fender and the tub. I will still need to reinforce the flimsy rear member.

I also am going to reinforce the bottom of the bed. The cross members are all pretty flimsy and one is cracked in the middle. i will just use some angle iron.

Just 9 bolts and the whole tub came right off.

It's Sofa King cool how these tubs come off so easily.

I think I want to put a receiver in the back of mine too.

This would be a good time to install some stabilizer jacks. The Atwood tall ones like I have would weld in real nice.

This morning I went out to do some measuring and realized that the cross members on the body are supposed to be bolted to the frame in the middle. Based on that I am just going to reinforce them in the middle where the bolts appear to have pulled through. This will be sufficient and help prevent the floor from warping any more.

On the way to work I picked up some more welding wire and some stock to reinforce the rear cross member and gusset the receiver. In retrospect, I should have purchased the longer receiver :meh:

The floor will warp anyway, it's pretty wimpy.

I didn't bother bolting mine to the frame in the middle because the holes don't line up. Maybe I should fix that. :hhmm:

 yeah.

Chris,
Your bride must be very progressive to allow you to have this on your want/wish list. Does it have anything to do with Rome?
Something in the water....I think they are called roofies

Can you put a keg holder in that receiver?
I sure can try!

I made a little progress today. Got the springs off and only need to get the spring mounts off to have the frame stripped. The spring plates and ubolts are soaking in PB Blaster right now.

One minor disaster, one of the front spring mount bolts was broken and all the bushings are trashed. The bearings look good though. I pulled the seals so I need those. (part number is CR-22340 and searching on the net comes up with some vendors for those cheap) The shocks had to be original, they might as well not have even been mounted

I think a bunch of the suspension components are the same as an M38 so I am in search of that greasable bolt and the bushings.

After scouring the net, I have found the bushings (seals) but not the greasable bolt or bushing retainers. Any help would be appreciated.
Repost after the lost 48 hours:

I scored!
I remembered a couple months ago I drove past Quarter Ton & Military up in Rising Fawn, GA.
The owner is Matt Fox. he has an Ebay store and regardless what you think of Ebay stores and what they have done to the used parts industry, I have met Matt twice and both times we had some nice interaction and today I left very happy!

He had the bolts in stock for $5 each and had the shackles too - $9 each. he explained that the retainers are unavailable without the shackle although the seals may be. For the price I left with a smile on my face! Of course he tried to sell me an M38 while I was in there but all I could hear was the wife making me sleep in it until something else with an internal combustion engine was sold. (She has made it clear that the lawn mower can not be considered for sale!)

cheers,

I am stalled right now. I was going to get the big stuff to have it media blasted but a limb fell from a big tree in my yard and did some considerable damage to the DD pickup truck. It is now at the body shop :crybaby:
