Hey....I did something today on my troopy? It's been a while, but I got the front driveshaft bolted on! Few other odds and ends as well, but I haven't touched the thing in a while I figured something was better than nothing.

Also a few pics of a care package I got from Cruiserdan a couple weeks ago. Some new OEM driveshaft bolts, washers and nuts. Also a new OEM front bumper and license plate bracket.

One question re the aqual Tub
I notice the front floor pans are a lot more angled & shaped different. Thinking that your previous restos you kept to pretty much a stock look, what will you do re a floor mat?

Dave

I would say more than likely I will end up ordering some heavy vinyl and sewing up a custom mat to fit it.

Question for the die hard cruiser people.

Fuel tank? Is a troopy fuel tank the same as a 79-83 U.S. FJ40?

These are 3 pics I took today of the one that came out of my troopy.

Thanks, Matt

Another question. I ordered up a 5 piece tie rod end kit from SOR a while back, I have a question on one of the ends. 2 of the ends where obvious since they were a larger dia. The other 3 not as much, one is longer than the other 2. Does the longer one go on the steering box tie rod?

I ordered and installed the same set a few years ago and can't remember how things went.

I do believe that the the two shorter tie rod ends you have will have opposite threads though.

And it makes sense that the longer one goes in the drag link (from the steering box).

Have you looked at the FSM?

I have not looked at the FSM, might be a good place to start.;)

The 2 shorter ones do have opposite threads. I assumed the longer one would go on the drag link as well, but was hoping someone would know for sure.

FWIW, from what I can tell it looks the same as the tank in my 79 fj40. However, I cannot be sure its 100% the same.

Hello Matt,

I think the two opposite thread shorter ones go on the drag link from the bell crank to the tie rod. The longer one likely goes on the left side of the drag link and the right side of the tie rod will have a big, round hole machined into it. Does this sound right?:hhmm:

As to the tank: I just looked at my '84 FJ40 (which is in the rig, but I can see the lines fairly well) and it has the same three breather lines (which go to the evaporator in the FJ40/5) and the same 1/2" hose above the filler neck. Thus, from that perspective they look the same. It would fit Toyota's MO for them to be the same.

However, my Cruiser is non-US, so it may be different when all the emissions kaka is factored in. Are you swapping tanks?

Cheers,

Josh

Hey Josh,

No plans to swap tanks. For some reason I was thinking about that aluminum tub, and the fuel tank. I was curious as to how it mounts to the aluminum tub, and just wanted to make sure the location was the same.

Thanks, Matt

Just to add another.... Looks just like the '79 FJ-40 tank on ours..... that is feeding a 3B. I did have to plug the return line to the tank, but that's insignificant.

The 3B and the 2H should have the same fuel line requirements...
