Wow, that's beautiful!!! Are you going to be setting/mounting the doors, limiters, etc. yourself? Or is that one of the to-do's that Aqualu will take care of before crating?

Can't wait to see it painted. Are you going to bedliner or paint the interior?

Oh man! I sure wish they had those tubs before I cut out all the crap on Patches. That is beautiful. Only problem I see is that the openings at the bottom of the rear doors may not be rounded enough for the 79-84 rear doors. Has anyone had that issue, or am I imagining things?

That was one of the things Todd and I discussed today. He was going to fill that area in with aluminum on the rear to match the current radius on the stock tub.

So no....you are not imagining things. :)

I will be mounting and drilling in everything in on my end. I sent the hardtop sides with so that they could make sure everything fit up perfect on the first proto type.

Thinking the SEM bedliner bottom and interior right now.

I like your thinking.... interior grey or black?

The SEM sauce is tintable to any color, so......beige 464.

so only the tub in aluminum? I guess they don't repro hardtop side panels?

Yes, only the tub is aluminum. And no, they don't repro hardtop side panels.

Good call. The bedliner in body color is just too sweet....

That looks good. Without a bunch of rust to repair, you're going to fly through getting it back together!

I'll second that - color-coded bed liner is way too cool. One day....

Well, let's just continue to beat the ol' SEM drum. After watching one of Matt's previous builds, I also used the tintable SEM bedliner in my 40. I like it, but don't kid yourself about how long it dries. It takes a long while....maybe different in drier climates, but not the East.

Rear Seats

G'day Matt,

I'm loving this build as with your previous two landcruisers.

I was wondering if you intend to use forward facing rear seats or the stock inward facing bench type seats?

I suppose if you went with forward facing seats then now would be the time to consider seat brackets or some type of reinforcing. If you need to fit a baby seat then I reckon forward facing would be the go.

Cheers,

Ben

Front seats will be stock buckets. The right seat will the the bucket that came with troopy, the new Left bucket seat will be the same style, but out of a US FJ40.

As far as the rear I plan on installing the stock rear bench seats facing inward, so no change there. Now...that being said, I do want to fab up something for 2 child seats....since I have 2 little ones now. I haven't figured out all the details yet, but I plan on fabbing something that bolts to the fasteners that will now be coming through the floor and bolting to the stock frame mounts. With this aluminum tub the bolts come all the way through the floor now from my understanding. So that will allow me to use those same bolts and make something that I can bolt a forward facing seat too, and then fasten the child seats to that. Or make something very specific that the child seat bolt to. Either way I want to make something that when the kids out grow it I can just unbolt, put the bolts back in, and make it look like nothing ever happened.

Matt

Just got a little update from Aqulau. Couple pics of the rear sill where they filled in with aluminum to match the radius of the rear ambulance doors.

how long do you think until that gets to you..

looking good matt!!

Not sure. I know when I spoke to Todd a few days ago they thought it might ship this week, but a few other dates have come and gone so I'm not holding my breath. He's a busy guy and I understand that, it's also not that big of deal if I get it tomorrow or anything like that. Summer is here and I've got all sorts of other fun stuff to do as well!

I'm shipping it to an LTL cross dock terminal in Winnipeg and holding it there for pick up. I'm guessing to a terminal in Winnipeg from B.C., should only take a few days once it's on the truck. I'll just run up and pick it up since that's pretty close for me, then I don't have to deal with brokers or anything getting it across the border.

I guess I missed the part where you said you were swapping it from RHD to LHD, or at least the tub is made that way?
