We made it to Arkansas to pickup our 1982 FJ40 Cruiser on Wednesday. It was as represented. The body and interior are eye candy. There is an oil sticker dated 1993 that says change the oil at 91K. With 106K on the clock that means it was driven 13K miles in the last 24 years! Talk about a garage queen! 2nd owner repainted in 2006 on a solid one owner Cruiser. My magnet couldn't find any bondo in the usual places. A couple of rust eruptions in the back floor. Light surface rust underneath.

The oil pan gasket is leaking and the brake booster is shot. It drove like a Cruiser. Brakes don't pull left or right. Front end drifts to the right a bit with hands off. Tires are totally aged out. Plugs were dry and really carbon coated. Needs tune up, radiator flush and all of the above fixed or replaced. Started up without hesitation.

NOW, for the thread title! We've owned this baby less than 48 hours. This morning, we are gassing up at the Arkansas/ Missouri line. The Cruiser is on the trailer, and I'm putting gas in the F150. The wife comes out of the store from a bathroom break with a big grin on her face. She said, "It just happened." She says a guy in the store says, "Nice Jeep, what year is it?" She says gruffly , "1982, It's a Land Cruiser, not a Jeep." It brought back a flood of memories from owning a 1978 FJ40 for 20 years. Can't count the number of times we said, "It's not a Jeep!"

We check in to the hotel in Garden City, KS this evening. Before we could finish, a guy says, "Nice Jeep, did you restore it?" We smile at each other and answer in unison, "It's not a Jeep, It's a Toyota Land Cruiser!" The guy look puzzled and walks off. We give each other a high five.

We'll keep you posted on getting this garage queen back on the road.

I guess we all go through that, but I've gotten to the point that I just thank them - they're trying to pay me a compliment, so I accept it gracefully. I just tell them 'thank you' and go on my way...

What? No pics? Slacker.

The only people I correct are jeep people.
You can't really blame common people for fouling it up....they do look like jeeps.

Most of the world call them 'all' jeeps

We are a bit of the sensitive types here...

I too normally correct the occasional jeep person ... I normally reply 'I see yours is trail rated... that's nice' :meh:

Get used to it... also get used to them all waving at ya ... I normally when I do anything at all raise the pointer finger for the number 1 (not the bird lol)

This is an ode to the fact they call the jeep "there's only one" very selfish of them ... lots of trucks are jeeps ... even they think so

It's also for Marv as that was his 'thing' he was as we are #1

I also thank them for the compliment, BUT I ALWAYS make sure they understand it is not a jeep

Nice- what @brian said. You do get used to it though. If it is a Jeep person saying it then it really is ignorance. They do kinda look like Jeeps but that is where the similarity ends! Congrats on the new rig. I really dig my '78
