1975 FJ-40 Rehab (I swear it's not a restoration)

That looks great for a rust bucket:). You're plugging along. Your wife might even let you drive her 40. The windshield hinge mirror works great. I picked mine up in the classified section, they're cott repop arms with Toyota Mirrors. I usually run the top off and need to get into tight places, so I fold them forward out of the way. Fyi, frt and rear turn signal assemblies are grounded by the housings, which eventually fails. It's common to add a ground wires to them. Here's my 75 with the Mirrors.

I know it's common to add grounds but these were done with sheet metal screws and Home Depot house wire. I went back to factory for now, and can add a cleaner ground later if need be. My goal is to baseline it back to factory where I can, and upgrade along the way. I get the feeling that some of the people that worked on this over the year weren't Toyota guys, and certainly not cruiser experts 🤣

I don’t have the part number for my telescoping arms, they came with the truck when I bought it. I just cleaned them up and painted stainless steel to match.

But I have seen them available from Toyota and there are aftermarket choices. City Racer has the windshield arm like you mentioned, but with a mirror combo for sale like this if you weee doing no doors:

Thanks!

Well, as usual... an order from @cruiseroutfit solves the problem!

A quick call to the oracle himself answered a couple questions about those arms. Toyota never made them to go in this location from the factory- they're intended to mount to the cowl below the hinge on the side of the vehicle. These necessitated a little clearancing of the upper mirror tab to clear the hinge pin and elongating the holes a bit so the bolts would line up.

I’d have likely mounted them to the cowl but some bozo put my antenna there instead long before I owned it....

Had an old warn M8000 kicking around the shop for a few years. Bought it for $150 because it "didn't work". When I brought it home, I repaired some wiring and crimped on new eyelets and it worked fine on the bench. Went to install it in the rear bumper of my 80, and found the brake was bound up and making it work real hard when spooling in or out.

Ended up with a different winch in the rear of the 80 anyway, as I wanted a wireless remote. Ordered the parts to rebuild this old M8000, and got it dialed. Called CCOT and got a HFS bumper and winch plate and decided to rock the M8000 on the 40. The winch is circa 1982 according to the folks at Warn, so it's period correct-ish for my 1975 FJ40. It's not the 8274 I wanted, but I've got less than $400 in the winch and a few bucks in the bumper and synthetic line. It'll likely never be needed, but it looks better on the 40 than on the floor of my shop 😎
