Hello All, It’s been a while. I’ve been collecting parts, bolts, nuts, engine, transmission etc and am now on the upswing. Got the transmission and engine marriage completed today and got the lump back home in he truck. Want to say thanks to @cruiseroutfit @FJ60Cam @Cruiser Cult @TRAIL TAILOR for providing inspiration, great service and quality products to bring this project together. Now for the details:
Engine is a rebuilt 2F with Chevy small block valves. Pistons are the largest stock one’s available. Going to get it running with the carburetor then update with the Mosley sniper kit once I have everything baselined.

Transmission is an H55 from @cruiseroutfit with a resurfaced flywheel, new clutch and pressure plate.

Transfer case is stock but rebuilt by me.

That’s one big biscuit!

Now getting it in position

Finally home! Long May you run 😀

One final request, anyone know what the part number is for the trans crossmember bolts? Mine are all pretty tired due to PO abuse..

More to come!

Looks great

Which crossmember bolts are you after? From the trans mount (aka Engine Mounting Rear Insulator) or the crossmember to frame?

Hello Kurt, I’m looking for the ones that attach the crossmember to the frame rails on he outboard ends of the crossmember. There are 8 total, thanks!

Should be 91651-61025 and they are super cheap @ Toyota

If you don’t have a nearby dealer, lmk and I’ll mail you a set. We use them for a bunch of different applications.

Super, thank you for the part number. I have great local dealer so no need to send out some but the offer is much appreciated. While I have you, do you have a link to the assembly diagrams? I need some other fasteners for the side PTO cover on the transfer case as well as the 6 fasteners that hold the sheet metal cover on the back of the transfer case. Also, is there a washer and/or spacer that goes between linkage arm on top of the transfer case and the transfer case?

Cheers, James

I have a whole spreadsheet with every single piece of split t-case hardware at the shop. I replaced them all on my HJ61 so we built out kits

You’re after these:

4/5 x 91651-60830 -> 90119-A0043
1/2 x (need to look what we use at the shop as the 90119-08353 & 90119-08268 are NLA)

Hello All, been making slow but steady progress over the pas t few weeks. As many of you know, reassembly often exposes other areas that need attention. Made the decision to just do the sniper install while I’m here and sent my dizzy off to @FJ40Jim for a recurve.

Got the oil filter and cooler bracket cleaned out and the water temp sensor installed on the block for das Sniper

Then moved on to cleaning the drivers side fender well, washer reservoir etc. lastly started running the sniper fuel supply.

I am cleaning one of these but haven't gotten around to taking it apart yet, are there no ball bearings inside that? looks pretty basic.

There are no ball bearings but there is a plunger in front of the spring inside the housing which I forgot to include in the picture.

Just for a change of pace I’ve cleaned up the gauge cluster. The needles were pretty faded so I touched all of them up with fluorescent orange paint, polished the clear faces and replaced the bulbs.

Before and after.

Also got a nice upgrade from @TRAIL TAILOR. Thanks Jason!

No more oingo boingo!

I also swapped out the choke lamp cover with a check engine Cover from @ToyotaMatt. I’ll be using this to show fault codes from the Sniper… more to come!

Well, it has been a while but much has happened! Got my truck running today with the Sniper and all I can say is WOW! Had two minor hiccup’s during the final phases of completion that were easily fixed. One was installing the distributor one tooth off and the other was failing to tighten down a fuel connection correctly.

I started this project back in 2021 with my Dad who has since passed away. It took a bit of time to get back into this as this was something we were doing together. Here is what has been done to the truck in preparation for the Vermont Overland (now called The Pilgrimage).

New engine installed
Transfer Case Rebuilt
H55 Transmission installed
Dobinsons Dampers installed
Rear C channel reinforcements replaced
Holley Sniper Installed
Trail Tailor bumper installed
Koito Fog lamps installed

Thanks again to the following vendors, as part of my goal with this project is supporting local businesses, in no particular order.

.
It’s a Privilege to serve others in life that like what one has to offer …

It’s a special thing to me personally and professionally to have fellow Land Cruiser enthusiasts like my self as i am 51% of the time of course , dig and incorporate my professional mechanical artwork …

I am thankful to be thanked ….

Kindly ,
Matt

Oh : DO NOT peal off the brown paper bag looking backer protection , only in recent time I discovered it actually has an intriguing side benefit when it comes to COLOR TEMPERATURE Diodes

It’s a natural light defused / ZERO hot spots and all even Steven Lumens ….

My latest updated white pigment I hand apply is now 💯 % opaque ….

This all = Evolution to Bliss ….

😎

Side note :

I now have PURE JDM YELLOW color temperature 12 diodes bulbs for your CLEAR Corner lamps if one chooses to go boldly go there ….

8000k Cool white is Modern Materials with a purest based mindset approach too

The PURE YELLOW LED bulbs have 6 diodes , you can see into the woods with your front side Markers if you so choose ..

Zero editing to below tech pics FYI ..

Truly a beautiful truck! Glad we could be a supplier to this project. When ready, let's see some interior photos!

Hello David, absolutely! The interior is mostly original with good upholstery with nice patina. Spent the last few weekends cleaning the seats I with a small cleaner we have for the house. The door cards are nice and show some wear but nothing too bad. I’ll be installing the carpet this week and will post progress.

Here's some before and after of the C-Channel R&R. For this job, good quality tools are a must. I don't have access to air tools but a manual cold chisel did the trick. For this job, I highly recommend good quality drill bits to remove the rivets. I purchased a couple .25" and .4375" 8" drills so I could drill up from the bottom and get two holes in one shot as it were. I'll be finishing up the paint once I can get some time on my friends lift. This job is much easier with the fuel tank out as well. I had already dropped it in order to install the fuel pump for the Sniper so doing this was a no brainer.
