Edit----I'm an idiot who didn't even think about the Valve Cover gasket until after I posted. The VC gasket is most definitely toast. Sorry. Move along----

So I just finished replacing the O2 Sensors on my pretty stock 93 FZJ80 (230,000mi) and I did my typical under truck inspection.

I looked up at the underside of the headers and noticed that there was a lot of oil seepage between the head and the block. With a lot noticed around Cyl 6. Is this a sign of impeding doom or should I not worry about it?

Also when I just changed my coolant I noticed the radiator was heavily calcified. I was planning on doing a vinegar / calcifying engine clean but I am second guessing that now. I don't want to flush out stuff that may be holding the old girl together.

Engine runs fine, no smoke and it pulls strong, occasionally it idles low and has not passed emissions yet (o2 sensors). I also did notice some goop under the oil cap during the last oil change, cleaned it off to see if it persist.

Another note: When I bought the car I changed the oil to a mobil 1 synthetic, more oil leaks sprung up as a result. So just last week I switched back to dino oil. I am owner no. 2, previous owners did an above average job having the dealer maintain it.

yea I feel dumbtarded for making this thread, looked for the delete button. Most definitely a toast valve cover gasket. jesus SMH :slap:

I run a dino 10/40 oil in my diesel, now approaching 245,000 miles, not a leak anywhere. Mobile 1 is modern tech in an old tech engine, works for some but never all.

My truck is about to turn 230K and after replacing the VC gasket, dizzy O ring, oil pump seal and front main seal, I am virtually leak free. I run Valvoline MaxLife 10W-30, which is a dyno/synth blend (I don't think Valvoline reveals the proportions of the blend, at least not that I can find). Just a data point.
I was losing a lot of oil before I sealed it up and switched oils. I'm sure the reduction in oil loss is 95% or more due to the sealing up, not the oil choice.

I can say with 100% certainty that after switching to Mobil 1 Synthetic I began to leak much more oil than before. But that said, if there are 1/4" breaks in the VC gasket its going to leak regardless what oil / weight is put in.

Funny, by editing in "sorry, move along", I just had to keep reading. He who is without sin (or mistaken posts) shall cast the first stone! The synthetic / leak thing is a good post topic on its own
