Ready for tomorrow's Koeberg Nuclear plant test run :bounce::steer:
The emblems are like a cherry on top! It looks fantastic! Your's is one of my favorite cruisers!

It has been a long time since I have had some spare time to spend working on Olive. In prepping for the upcoming Turbo conversion I got an EGT guage. The one in my 105 is almost 5 years old so I decided to go with another MGL Avionics unit, for obvious reasons. Due to the fact that space is a premium in the 40 I went with the smaller TC1 unit. The kit included the K-type probe with wire.

In order to obtain accurate before and after figures, I decided to install the guage before even fitting the turbo.

DSC_0005.JPG

Having drilled and tapped the stock manifold I routed the probe wire in such a way that I didn't need the extention piece that came in the kit. I also added some extra protection in the form of Plymouth tape etc ...

I made a new bracket for and relocated the VHF mic in order to fit the guage in the most visible& practical location while still being aestetically pleasing ...

I also decided that it was time to fit that EL wire instrument cluster upgrade

That EL wire is an awesome improvement indeed !

Thanks guys! However the resultantant readings have left me totally confused ... :o

But I suspect it to be a question more for the diesel section than here

Would you mind telling us who manufactured those rims? Very nice and sturdy looking....are they actually beadlocks or just made to look like them?

Cheers!!

What a functional piece of art!!!

Don't mind at all. They are fully functional beadlocks made by my local Eng shop. A few of my buddies have them on their 80 series trucks. I have had my tyres down to .3 bar doing sharp turns in the dunes, without any problems at all. I actually think that the sidewalls on those 4 ply Baja tyres are a bit prohibitive.

Spose I will have to try .2 next ? :hillbilly:

I recently fitted a turbo to Olive

and wanted to give her a testrun in varying driving conditions. A quick weekend trip to the Cederberg with my son fiited the bill perfectly. The pics tell the story ....

Nice trip pics Theo.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys, much appreciated !

..
How is Betty doing with her new Turbo?

With the 33" tyres I basically lost the use of 5th gear but now it is back. I can cruise in 5th @ 2500 rpm for most of the day at 490 degC EGTs. Instead of being overtaken I can actually do some overtaking myself :D

..
"Olive" will have a cousin in the states soon "Sarge."

;)

I am watching your thread closely ;)

Any news on the hard top? I can't wait to see it on there. I just went through your whole thread, and it makes me wish I had gone 6H9 instead of 6L4:grinpimp: What a great build!

Do you have any trouble seeing the tach with the front roll cage bar where it is located? Do you reckon the quarter window (vent window) on the front door will open? I want to do a full cage like yours, but I am concerned about these two things. I am also 6'6", so not sure how I will fit.

That hard top is the one thing that I just cannot seem to get to - too many interruptions :o I have also used up all my Rust Bullet so I need to get some more before I can start.

The cage is no problem wrt the revvie at all. As for the quarter window I have to admit that it completely slipped my mind but I doubt that it will be a problem. If it is it will only be a small limitation on how far you can open it.

Wow, fantastic build Theo! I can't believe i never really looked through this thread earlier. I love you whole approach to the build, and the finished product looks like it is well-suited to your type of travel over there. Grateful for all your pictures too - they will be handy when i start a frame-off on mine. Very sweet 40.
