Sorry mate but these twin felts will only work for the sliding windows in the hard top and not for any of the doors. If you are referring to the alu/felt combo weatherstrips, on the front doors, then the news is good as you can still source them from Toyota

Then today I got a huge pressie !! :grinpimp:

These were custom made for an 80 series but we have already worked out how to fit them in the 40. Watch this space...
Thanks JB ! You are the best ! :cheers:Now I just need to find the 2 outside seatbelts etc

What a fantastic thread! I have been reading it for way too long now!

I would love to know more about these seats and how you were planning to mount them.

Thanks!
john

Thanks John

Those seats were custom made for an 80 ser low spec GX. Unfortunately I am yet to mount them and have to admit that I actually forgot about them being safely tucked away :whoops:

IIRC the idea was to build a frame using the OEM LX bolt holes in the rear.I currently use them to mount my fridge and packing "system" although calling it a system is probably a bit optimistic

Today I finished the 2 front doors to the point that the upholsterer can now do his thing. Honestly it was a PITA job probably made worse by the fact that I waited too long before I tackled them and had a bit of a struggle to piece the bits together ..

Made some new plastic and rubber gaskets ..

Can you see the problem ? On the pax door there were factory holes to allow for those clips to clip into but on this door there were only those tiny round holes like on the opposite side.Suddenly it made sense why the truck was missing that piece when I bought her Darn PO never bothered to make a plan to fit that piece.

I removed those square metal clips and after trying out those "spring loaded pinch clips" , I ended up using some removable glue .. :hillbilly:

All done

Thanks guys, much appreciated !

Well I had some time lately so I got a bit done ....

The square Ambi glass rubbers are no longer available from Toyota but after a loong search I found the 1980 Datsun/Nissan windscreen rubber to be an almost exact match

If your Toyota parts guy claims that the Lisence plate light assy for the 40 ser is no longer available then tell him to search under the Gen/European 60 ser bumper light - exact same part !

I am a rookie spray-gun holder but did try to play around to create a "hammered" finish ....

Price of said license plate bracket!?

I think he means the light itself, not the entire bracket.

I ordered those from toyotapartseast.com

Nice work Theo! Did you have to splice the rubber gasket on the amby doors or direct fit?

Yep it was just the 2 light assy's and not the entire bracket.

Thanks Alex. I haven't tried them yet as I had already sent the doors to the upholsterers but looking at the old ones I reckon they should be a direct fit. Will let you know as soon as I get the doors back.

Outstanding work Theo! Very inspirational skills you have.

Quick question: what size tires are your running, and also what size wheel width, and how much backspacing?

I love the set up!

Much appreciated

Thanks ! It is 33 x 10.5 x R15 BFG Baja tyres on Aussie 7.5" rims. The rims have since been converted to beadlocks but the width stayed the same

you are a bad bad boy, now go sit in the corner till you put a diesel back in.

<looks like a clean install, congrats. how is the power?>

 Thanks Wayne ! - You would appreciate my shock when I read about cruiser guy's woes after I had just sold and shipped my old motor back to a friend in Aussie literally days before :frown:

We have only mapped her at altitude sofar and now that she is back at sealevel, we will redo it after she has the first few thousand kms under her belt BUT the firures at the wheels, were 143 KW and 269 Nm torque(80% of which, is available from just over 1000 rpm).
