Picked up this rig a week ago in Olympia, WA. Drove home Thursday-to Anchorage, AK. Got home Sunday mid afternoon.
Kind of surprised it came with 18” wheels/tires. Replaced the factory Falken Wildpeak AT3Wa with the new BFG AT KO3 since I figured I should have a better tire to drive the alcan in the winter.
Impressions:
Mpg hurts when temps are below 0F. Probably drove around 800 mi at temps 0F to -30F. Engine wasn’t anywhere near broke in yet. .
Leaving Watson Lake temps started at 0F and by the time I got to Whitehorse they were up to around 10-12F. Mpg improved to 19-20mpg. Odometer getting around 2000mi, so engine breaking in complete?
Here’s the mph breakdown:
Day 1; 21.00, 18.05
Day 2; 17.02, 16.9, 17.38, missed this one
Day 3; 16.46, 15.40, 19.54, 20.95
Day 4; 21.96, 20.6, 22.21
Wow, the power on tap, was amazing. You can accelerate gradually up the steepest incline or floor it and just accelerate quite fast.
Surprised by how quiet it was, compared to our 2017 rav4 hybrid and the 1985 HJ75.
One problem is that the truck didn’t come with mud flaps, the sides took a beating from the gravel/sand on sections of the road.
Windshield survived the drive only to get a chip yesterday in town.
At half tank so far in town, guessing getting around 18mpg in town.
Drove about 2450mi. home.

Word on the street is mileage improves after the engine breaks in. Some folks are reporting 12mpg on the first tank, improving from there.

Personally, I think the Falken Wildpeak AT3Wa is a great snow tire, and worked better in snow than BFG KO2 I had.

Truck is now at around 2800mi. Still haven’t done my first fill up in town.
I didn’t realize that the 18” rim came with the Falken I only found out when I was taking pictures of the tires to post for sale🙄 I just assumed they were the mild BFG AT that comes on the 17” rim.🤣

I'm sending you a private message.

1) Does that have the 4cyl turbo?

2) Did you do an oil change along the way, or...?

Congrats! Nice looking truck. I really like my new Tacoma

Was surprised at how much road grime sneaks in under the doors. Found a stick on weather stripping that I attached to the passenger side doors to test. Seems to work pretty good to keep the rocker panels under/inside the doors clean. Will see how long the sticky works on the weather stripping.

Bought the Toyota mud flap kit, but didn’t come with bolts for the rear so only got the fronts installed until I can get some bolts for the rear.

Did you get the -35R00, or the -35R50?

Just to clarify, the i-ForceMax has the same tuborcharged 2.4L four-cylinder engine as the non-hybrid Tacomas but, it is paired with an electric motor.
