If I floor it from a stand-still, the truck will accelerate and shift 1-2 @ 2,200rpm, then 2-3, @ 2,200rpm, then it'll stay in 3 until I let up and it'll shift to 4. From a slow cruise, say 20mph, if I floor it, it will not downshift. I can manually shift the trans normally. AFTER doing that, the transmission will behave normally for a while (shifts @ high rpm when floored and will downshift when floored while cruising). Not sure how long exactly, but it will revert to the previous behavior after a period or maybe after a stop/start cycle.
Things I've Checked:
Transmission Fluid
--------------------
Level is fine (maybe a little high)
Color is red
Smell is not burnt
Kickdown cable
-----------------
My kickdown cable was very close to stock spec (1mm of crimp extending out of boot), but to test, I adjusted it as far out as the threads would allow (fully exposing the crimp). No change in the behavior of the transmission.
Check Engine Light / Codes
-----------------------------
I do currently have some CELs. Don't think they're related, but maybe?:
0171 - bank 1 lean
0130 - o2 circuit malfunction - bank 1, sensor 1
0133 - o2 circuit slow response - bank 1, sensor 1
My truck has always (since I got it in 2015) had the dreaded p0401 - EGR flow code, but it is oddly absent currently. These CEL's are new(ish). I hadn't pulled the codes in a while since the truck was running fine until recently, and the CEL has always been lit for p0401.
Other Considerations
------------------------
The (D) light on the gauge cluster does not light up (never has). All of the rest of the lights do. I've read some about this being controlled by the neutral safety switch.
When I was installed my brake controller, I moved around a few wires near the shifter to make room for it. There are several connectors that are not used, but did I unplug something that should be plugged in?
It's probably worth noting that I recently pulled a rat's nest of factory security system wiring out of the driver's kick panel/under the driver's seat/under the steering column. I didn't notice the shifting issues immediately after that, though. So, I don't think I left something unplugged.
Also noteworthy, I just replaced my battery cable ends, added positive bus bar, and added a trailer brake controller. One of the fusible links broke while I was wrangling all that wiring. Replaced the fusible links w/ the factory part.
While poking around the engine bay looking for things amiss, I noticed coolant at the top of the radiator where the plastic meets the metal. So, a new radiator is in the works. Coolant was about 1/2 gal. low. Don't think the truck got hot. Doubt that's related.
I found this thread about shifting problems very similar to mine, and the guy's issue was water/corrosion on the electrical connectors that go to the transmission. So, I'll be checking those tomorrow, but my truck hasn't seen any water in ages (nor have I washed the engine bay).
Anyone got any ideas as to what my problem could be or further diagnostics that could point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
