I keep trying but it sure looks like people are eager to pay to buy an over priced/under performing, expensive to maintain rolling alexa like monitoring device.......
I know, right? There's even some people who obsess over the Bronco and Jeep but instead of just buying one can't stop complaining about Toyota. Embrace the diversity.

That's way better than it was in the Nineties. The s*** one used to get for driving the pickups was never ending, until you sent it. 🤣

What most of us want is for toyota to go back to being Toyota....dont think the so called Heritage that toyota marketing blathers on endlessly about has been forgotten by most of us who owned and/or still own past/current land cruisers that made the brand what it is.

That Toyota is never ever coming back. Ever. Either get over it or buy older trucks that retain the Toyota you remember or move on to another manufacturer that checks your boxes.

The future is now and that’s what Toyota is concentrating on.

I think they call it maturity when one accepts reality. The world you can't stop wishing for died along with coal heated homes.

Naw, they call that capitulation to bad ideas that make people poorer, less free and more dependent....you better start looking for your sign up sheet for the "15 Minute City"

If their current efforts/offerings in the US dont sell, Toyota WILL change what they're doing

Let's all try to be brave together 👍

100%, probably even more quickly in products here in the US.

One may argue a few products available elsewhere (base 300, 70, possibly the HiLux) still retain a bit more traditional Toyota, but those are destined for places that utilize and consume vehicles much differently than the average US consumer with the majority of the purchasing power.

I know people always look back with rose colored glasses, but the 1996-2004 tacoma was the best ever. no new tacoma with screens, turbos, battery packs, 75 ECUs, sensors on top of sensors, no manual, a body styled by a blind kid can be proven to be 'better'

sure, a few MPGs here and there is OK, but won't stand the test of time

Having owned one, I respectfully disagree.

which body style / engine did you have?

i'd like to hear what makes the other gens a more perfectly well rounded mid size truck and/or SUV (3rd gen 4runner)......while understanding no vehicle is perfect

It was a single cab with the 2.7, manual. The switch to soft suspension from the previous pick-up could not handle loads and lost a tremendous amount of utility. A load similar to but less than what we'd usually run in an 80 series, with zero drama, literally destroyed the Tacoma's rear springs on a trip to Baja. That loss of utility (payload) carried forward for two decades and will finally be corrected with the new model.

I hear ya. The worst version. Some aftermarket $200 leaf springs is all you needed. Or $200 air bags. A 3rd gen, V6, 5 speed 4wd with e locker with some beefy rear springs would be about the best ever. Want to go a bit faster? Slap a TRD supercharger on it.

Not a turbo and intercooler and all the associated nonsense, not 100 interconnected sensors, a screen that will brick if the taillights get water in them, a high stressed 4 cylinder to meet some arbitrary, non real world mpg dream, battery packs and high voltage wiring, styling done by a blind 8 year old,.....just to correct the weak payload concern.

You can go buy a base model 4Runner. It's more reliable than any of those early Tacomas.

If you want to make it less capable to match you can pull the abs fuse to get rid of the ATRAC, put some duct tape over half the air filter to get power down, and maybe toss some smaller tires on.

More reliable than a 2004 V6 Tacoma? Na.

Don't need ATRAC and interconnected ABS, steering angle, speed, yaw, and brake pressure sensors. A $1000+ abs/brake/modulator doohicky? I don't think so! A rear mech. selectable locker and common sense will get me anywhere in the USA

Tires are bought to suit specific needs and conditions.

Down on power? 80 mph is fine, and cars made in 2004 would do that.
