Instrument Clusters - will '70 cluster work in a '74? (2 Viewers)

Maybe that is the way the speedo cable spins?
Do the numbers on the odo go up or down?

Seem to be going in reverse also, I tried both ways and the odo doesn't move in reverse only in forward it moves and the numbers count down instead of up?

So no matter which way you spin the drill the odometer counts backwards?

Sorry, I do not know why. I would you say something got messed up when you reassembled.
I would probably look at the pics again and tear yours down, see if you can find an error...

Bringing this back to life. Can anyone tell me if the gauge cluster with the charging light on the cluster will change out with the later year that has a actual gauge that has a charge range. I have a 72 thinking the one with the charge gauge is from a 77, I think. I am wanting to update to the later one to actual have a read out of charging system.

This would be a cool upgrade to go from the Change idiot light to the Amp gauge. I am trying to remember if I have pics of the back of the 2 different style gauges earlier in this thread? I'll check...

The cluster is specific to a few year range. 9/'75-9/'77 IIRC

76 was he first year of the ammeter, and I think about 78(cant recall exactly) the brake light moved back the instrument cluster.

The voltage regulator and the chassis wiring(ammeter needs the large white wires at the cluster) are different from warning light to ammeter types.

So it sounds like your idea may not work, but I have no hands-on experience to say so. Just going by what I have read here...

I looked in my owners book schematic and it shows a 3 wire voltage regulator. Does some have a wiring schematic for the 76-78 pig so I can see the wiring for the white plug voltage regulator? Part stores show two styles.
