I bought a brand new trd supercharger for my lc when it was the last one left in the nation 2yrs ago. Its been in the garage ever since. I only opened the box to read the directions.

With a new job with crappy hrs and days off at the time I bought it mixed in with 3 kids its just never found its way on.

People are recommending replacing the headgasket before I install it. Don't really have the extra cash for that big of a job now. The sc is already paid for. my lc only has 125k on it and hasnt missed a beat since we bought it 3 yrs ago with only 95k on it. So i almost just want to put it on the way it sits now or just sell it.

Looking for your input on this one. Would be fun to have, maybe not so much since I only am averaging 12.5 mpg right now.

But having the extra $3,800 would be nice also if I can get that much.

Sell it.

You have a low mileage, well maintained rig. I would put it on and drive it. while some say do the HG before, other have had good results without doing it..

Good luck either way

I would put it on, then save a bit for a rainy day HG fund. Chances of you getting $3800 out of it are slim as they can be purchased new from Cdan for I think $3400.

I think I saw one in the Classifieds same as yours never installed still in box for $3000 never saw if it sold or not.

I would just install it and get some enjoyment out of it. Sounds like the truck has been well maintained and lower millage, it should be fine for at least a few years. I would be more focused on making sure the cooling system is 100% with the S/C install.

I have to agree^^^...if this were a truck with 200K on it, it would be different but if it's in as good of condition as it seems at such low mileage....put it on and double check your cooling system, flush, hoses, tstat, fan clutch...and put some money away for a HG down the road.

I have 212 on mine and I would be hard pressed not to put it on if I had one sitting in a box in the garage...

Slap it on.:D I'd buy it from you but then my :princess: would want one for her rig too. I just don't have enough $ in my Cruiser budget for two SG's.:frown::)

Headgaskets don't need maintenance...jus sayin...

I'd put it on...mine will be installed this year and has been sitting just like yours for a few years now. I however, am going to drop in a fresh engine with mine ;-) ! !

And yeah, selling it will not only be a PITA, and I don't think you're going to get no $3.8k-

On the HG...maybe yours will blow, maybe it won't. Maybe it will blow sans the S/C...maybe it will blow faster once the truck is blown...pun intended.

Live dangerously...force-feed that truck! I recently drove a S/Ced truck, with a lot of extra weight on it, and it's a WHOLE different vehicle. You will love it!

If I were you, I would put the SC on!

During the install would be the time to do the HG but only if it's needed since yours has very low miles.

Decide on the HG when you pull your spark plugs. If the plug in cylinder #6 looks like it has been steam cleaned and is way cleaner than the rest, the HG is failing. If this is the case oil will be in your coolant.

Like others have said, be sure to flush your cooling system with toyota red, add a new thermostat and put in a blue hub fan clutch.

Many have had success using MR2 turbo spark plugs as they are one heat range cooler and using a 4.0L 4Runner or P/U fan vs. the TRD ringed fan.

I'll give it a good home over here in Australia. Am looking to go down th s/c path very soon.
Cheers, Mike.

my original plan since i do have lower miles would be the blue fan clutch. new t stat and do the mr2 plugs and maybe the jdm aux fan or just a pusher fan also, along with the coolant flush, another thing I was planning on doing was a compression check 1st just to make sure. Thanks for the tip about looking at the #6 plug.

Does anyone have the toyota part number for the blue fan clutch and the year for the mr2 plugs. my dealer gave me a strange look when I asked them about it last week.

I get a better deal from my local dealer actually. Well the same deal that cdan gives but then I wouldnt have to pay shipping just tax. And a percent of the tax goes to my current job anyways to help keep me employed.
Cdan told me i needed to do the head gasket but I dont rember if I said i only have 125k on it or not.

Another vote to keep it .. if you don't really need the money now .. install it .. if you don't have time or money to spend on that .. keep in the same place well cared .. install it when you are ready to.

I am not even going to touch the headgasket thing (I have my opinion, but I have learned to keep it to myself - 1FZ headgaskets seems a touchy subject to some here)

---However, if you choose to sell I'm just a little up the road & will travel / have cash - just a thought.

Depends on how much you need the $. I just put one on mine in the last year and the difference in drivability is really appreciated. I wouldn't do the HG if there were no signs of it going--you can always do it later if/when needed. Boils down to $. It's driveable now as is, but you'll love your truck a lot more with it. Think of how many miles you drive and your increased cost of premium gas, also.

I think you need to use premium fuel with a SC. So if money is tight now...

As long as you're not heavily loaded down or at really high altitudes or other abnormal condition, the normally aspirated 1FZ-FE does just fine.

If you can get $3k + for it, I say sell it.

its only 8 miles one way to work for me now. it used to only be 4. Thats why I am so miled out in the last few years.:)
The use of premium wont break the bank. Besides it would only be an extra 13 bucks a month as I only have to fill up 2x a month.
