What was the cost and also the part number to the steering box?
It is in that other thread. I didn't order one so don't have it handy.

The thread is “go to for steering parts” or something like that. Dollar is historically strong vs. yen and so the exchange rate is the most favorable it’s been in 40 years.

I just got confirmation that Impex has the steering box in their warehouse, as expected I paid additional $100 for shipping given the weight so total price is ~$1,275 delivered for the 105 series box.

No issues it appears for cancellation.

Make it $1,290, a final package weight meant a last $15 of shipping cost. Looks like it FedEx will have it shortly.

Probably I think it’s 1k

$800 is the de-minimus rule. Could be some minor duties if auto parts aren’t exempt in the countries’ trade agreement.

I’ve seen a post example of a guy buying a $1,600 JDM part and getting a FedEx duty bill of $44. Will report back, I haven’t bought anything expensive enough out of UAE or Japan to exceed $800 before.

One key thing is US Customs will generally handle any extra paperwork of value is between $800-$2,500, but the process may be more extensive above that amount.

FedEx sent me a notice with tracking number late yesterday. Will report back on delivery/import duties.

I used FedEx Economy and didn’t pay for faster shipping figuring it wouldn’t matter…seems it didn’t…

I'm putting in an order for a RHD steering box within the next couple of months. This'll be my first go at Impex after dozens of orders through partsouq/amayama. Hoping for a smooth experience. Anyone else ordered from them down-under and has any feedback?

They're fine as long as you're not in a hurry, and their packing isn't as good as the likes of Partsouq and Amayama. I've got items I ordered over a month ago that haven't shipped yet, they've have them in their warehouse for a few days but are closed this week. Had items within a week of order from Partsouq a couple of weeks ago.

Impex has better pricing (todays exchange rate) on most parts compared to other options. The only negative about Impex besides the wait is not knowing the price of shipping until the package is assembled. You can estimate based on weight but sometimes package volume is used for pricing over weight. So it depends on how they package it. I love how with Partouq you know exactly what you are paying out the door and pay once. Impex on the other hand you will need to pay for parts and then shipping once parts arrive to their warehouse and are boxed up.

I agree with @AussieHJCruza that their packaging is not as good as Partsouq but I have not had anything arrive damaged.
The few times I got parts from them I opted for economy shipping and each time it was automatically (without a fee) changed to express.

Packing here was good - the factory box inside a fitted box with bubble wrap in between was fine. Not the bubble wrap affair of Partsouq for sure, but not at the level of damage likely.

Time to drool. It’s an incredibly beautiful piece of Aichi Steel.

Finish is different than we’ve seen….?

Next to my spare box with 105 shaft.

Looks re-manufactured ?
Haha would figure if it’s out of production and I managed to get the first reman unit by not buying from existing stock. That would be exactly how my life is going these days. Closed the rear hatch on my wife’s Ascent last night and a dome light stayed on…and you can’t turn it off manually and pulling the negative battery terminal doesn’t work :smokin:

Maybe I will feel better then about having it opened for hydro ports.

@OGBeno what say you?

I’m guessing this is the answer to the question posed by this thread. If Toyota is now remanufacturing 80/105 series boxes for the JDM market, they need the cores and probably aren’t wanting them shipping out of country.

I don’t have a problem with a Toyota remanufactured steering box at this price vs a reseal job (manufacturer reman > secondary market reseal), but it would be nice to know. Will see if Google knows anything about this.

@Nay : What;s the part number on the Toyota inner box or paperwork?

Can you post up a few more photos including all the numbers, stampings, and stencil marks on your new steering box?
