Hey all, I'm new to the community and I have purchased a new to me LHD Land Cruiser Prado and I figured I would share some of my experiences along the way as I begin to modify/perform maintenance on my Prado.

Below is so info on the idle up function:

I did some digging the other day and I though I would share my experience in case anyone else is looking to add the idle up switch in their Prado 90/95 1KZ-TE.

I removed the panel that sits just below the steering wheel and and looked up behind the ignition key area to find the black connector that was tied up to part of the main wiring harness.

It's pretty easy to spot once you get up in there. It is in a prime spot for one of the switch blanks that is just below the ignition.

One thing to note: It is easy to mistake this connector for the mirror heater switch connector, which is the exact type and color of connector. The mirror heater switch connector is in a spot to the right of the Idle Up connector. It is located more in the center console/radio area.

The wiring is also different than the idle up switch, which should be easy to identify. The Idle Up switch has a pink w/ blue stripe wire on pin #6, while the mirror heater connector has a red wire for pin # 6. I have also attached the connector diagrams and wiring diagrams for reference. I have also linked a video that demonstrates the idle up function. I wasn't able to attach the video directly to the post, so thats why I embedded it in the post.

Brilliant! I was just thinking about my need for this mod on a recent holiday. Good find and thanks for sharing 😎👌

I have the idle up switch. Why do I need it exactly?
Running winches, air compressors or anything where you need more power from your alternator. I don't know exact figures but at idle, your alternator puts out bugger all amps. If you bring the engine idle up to say 1000rpm, the alternator puts out much higher amps, possibly even close to full capacity?

I did the same. I used it on those super cold winter mornings to assist in making heat faster. Because it is tied to the ecu, it's not a mechanical connection to the throttle and therefore it doesn't affect shifting etc. You pull up to a light and put the clutch in (or make a full stop) and about a second later the idle goes up. Kinda cool...

Hi, do you have the part number for the switch and where you ordered if from.

Thanks in advance
Gert
Unfortunatley I don't. I ordered mine off Ebay. Here's a link to the one I purchased and it works well for me:

Thanks gents, and for the ebay link will get it from there.
I'm wondering if you can just add a switch for the heated mirrors. Does anyone know if a 1997 JDM TX would have heated mirrors behind the plug? I have Idle up and electric mirrors from factory.
