Ok, I give up! DOT3 or DOT4?

My Haynes workshop manual asks for Dot 3. But that manual was written before Dot 4 came about. Dot 4 supercedes Dot 3. You can use Dot 4 where Dot 3 is requested but you can not use Dot 3 for Dot 4 applications.

Dot 3 and 4 are both glycol based. The later having a higher boiling point.

Dot 5 is a silicon based fluid and can't be used with either of the above.

Dot 5.1 apparently can be used in Dot 3 and 4 applications according to this article but I've never heard of it:

Do you use DOT4 for power steering fluid ? Am I the only using Dex3 for power steering?

No, sorry I got confused, That was a mistake lol. I'll go back and fix that.

We've finally got some warm weather here and I've spent 2 big days out on the water fishing in my kayak. I'm beyond exhausted! For Power Steering, I used this product -> Power Steering Fluid & Stop Leak - 1 Litre - https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/penrite-power-steering-fluid-stop-leak---1-litre/342317.html?cgid=SCA01070503#srsltid=AfmBOoqL8IUQoWkIPyxcNwm2_HUVQCySKtE2PyEwhcxz7FtnXyH7TJtN&vid=1%2B41KyNDUNsFDwbFOKbYKA%3D%3D&start=1

Brakes I use DOT 4 as it is recommended for Dot 3 and 4 systems. Had no problems at all!
