I have a '78, 40 and I believe my idle solenoid is bad. I do not hear it click, when key is turned. I am having a hard time finding the part. Cruiser Corps seems to have every other year but mine.

Do you guys mind sharing other places I can check?

Aftermarket via cityracer is the easiest/fastest for 1 or 2 wire. These are just alibaba/overseas aftermarket but they work in a pinch. Otherwise used OEM is the only other option - with my favorite being the 20/22R as they have a long lead that can be shortened and terminated with the correct terminal.

Some vendors are better than others - be sure and pay attention to shipping prices.
I google about everything parts wise I look for. Real Toyota parts are usually worth the extra cost - that being said lot of fake stuff on ebay & elsewhere. That's why the good vendors on here are worth buying from them

Thanks for introducing me to City Racer. Unfortunately, they don’t have a single wire for my year. The search goes on.

What are you talking about? They are the same - the ONLY difference is length of wire - so a small jumper is all that’s needed. 75-87 is the same EXCEPT for ground switching, hence 2 wire.

You learn something new every day. Since I’m new to Crusiers when a site says it fits a certain year that’s what I have to go by. I ordered it from SOR.

When dealing with 50 year of cars anything can happen. Previous Owners could have kludged in whatever. Taking pic's before you disassemble stuff is helpful. Cross referencing parts in the different vendor's sites can help confirm what should fit. Your month and year date is important to know, sometimes changes happen at odd times, again maybe somebody swapped in a new or older assembly your parts goes into.

Um, did you actually try jumping your solenoid directly to the battery to make sure it’s not a voltage supply issue?

On my way back from South Dakota in 2019, I made a stopover in Reno, where @airon23 was having a similar issue. Diagnostics were the same. We ran a jump wire to the battery for the test; carb idled just fine. So we moved the jump wire over to the coil, which is the way the solenoids were wired on the F engines, and left diagnosing the wiring harness for another day.😉

And btw @65swb45 that day still has yet to come and it's still sitting the way you left it ;) and running fine

I really appreciate this. That makes total sense and I will give it a try tomorrow. I will report on what I find.

^^^^This^^^^ Sometimes it's just a bad connection from the fuse.
My first check when a customer brings a 40 into the shop with an electrical issue is I push the fuse back and fourth a bit. About 25% of the time that is the issue.
