Agreed small market but a market for sure! Look at what new totally built 40's go for its insane but the 1%'ers like nice sh-t and they do sell
 
And if you have the luxury of being able to buy a twenty yr old truck brand new I highly doubt fuel mileage is an issue

You have all seen how you can now buy a 40 or early bronco brand new. Would you buy a brand new 80 if you could?

I respectfully disagree man. 40's etc are a staple vehicle aging wealthy people have fond memories of. 80's aren't that far behind, perhaps it's a bit early but if icon did a full on 80 I would bet money it would reach a small target demographic. Especially with people in the states that have had newer ones oversees during their tenure

The only 2014 SUV with a box frame is a Toyota 4 Runner.

Or a Land Cruiser (200 series), FJ Cruiser, XTerra, Expedition, Escalade, Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, QX56, Wrangler, and maybe some others.
 
So does this make the 200 series the rarest in lc USA history? Iirc they sold <1400 in '13.

Oh, then maybe is was 11500 globally.

Jeeps will start making IFS in 2 years from what I'm reading.

Regarding whether dealers prefer money now (cash) or MORE money over time (credit) is not a one answer fits all dealers answer. Many forces at-play in that equation. More money is always better, if they can "afford" to wait for it.

As far as Toyota, or any corporation changing - profit is the driver of all decisions where money is involved. If there's more money in building hybrids (or whatever), that's the direction the company will go. "The herd" is more interested in things that do not last as long, at a lower price.
 
While I would love for my 80 to last forever, the maintenance time/effort/$$ required to make it last is not insignificant...Then, I think about all the 80-ness I'll be losing and I'm right back where I started.

I was exactly here back in 2008. Short story, every year I put anywhere from $.5k-$2.5k in and not once (even close) have I regretted going down this path. My formula (not for everyone): buy PO/low miles engine over lockers, dial in baseline/reliability before upgrades, match your upgrade spend to your _real_ priorities, and spend miles on adventures.

"80-ness" -- perfect. I'm in for a cap, shirt or bumper sticker. :cheers:
 
Well, after reading this thread for the last few weeks, agonizing over what to do and building an elaborate spreadsheet comparing all the newer vehicle options I would consider (seriously, the spreadsheet was awesome), I've decided to keep the 80. I just can't help but think that I'd miss the 80 too much. Other than the maintenance it needs and gas, it really is perfect for everything else I do.

So, once I made the decision to keep it, I did the brakes, set up an appointment for the local upholstery place to rebuild the seats, filled the holes from the flares I removed five years ago... Feels great. So far, really, really happy with my decision and looking forward to at least a few more years with her.
 
They have a new bronco coming out. Could be a sweet ride especially with a diesel. There is also a diesel wrangler on the horizon.

The way I look at it is I will not go down the road of spending absorbent amounts again on a 20 year old truck. I did that with my 85 4runner and will not do it again.

Has everyone seen the discontinued parts thread ?

I can no longer purchase a factory refurb or new 442 for my 94. So when the day comes and my trans fails I will part the old girl out.

If I had to do it all over again I would pick a Tacoma with locking rear third. Put a two inch lift with long travel on it with some armor and a bed cover and call it good.
 
Change the fluid in your tranny every couple years and it won't sh*t the bed.

I just replaced the exhaust y pipe a couple weeks ago with an oem pipe, the muffler 2 months ago with an oem muffler and recovered my steering wheel last weekend. At 180k miles it feels and sounds like a new truck. I love it.
 
I have a cng kit on mine already. It's a good fall back, but not always practical since pumps are few and far between in this area of the Midwest.

Sorry for replying to an old thread. I am on the west coast and am interested in the CNG kit...Could you or someone else send me or post more info? Have '94 Series 80 with about 140K miles. Thanks!
