I'd like to know as much as possible about this restoration. I'd like restore one of this fj45's some day. So I'd like to learn as much as possible about the 45 wagan before I drive in. So any info or web links that you could provide would be appreaciated. Is Rod project still available for viewing--if so where? What did you think about the Rod's truck after seeing it up close? Any chances of Toyota relaese the FJ45 based on Rod's project? Thx

it was at sema...i touched it :bounce: don't like the seats, but otherwise sweet, even if it does have heep mirrors on it. no chance it will be released.

yup, it'll never be built by toyota. strictly a concept vehicle that's been displayed at sema a few times. it lives at millenworks in tustin CA and is still owned by toyota motor corp. they do drive it quite a bit as well. i know it went up to alaska this summer on a road trip.:)

Is there a breakdown anywhere on line of what exactly went into this FJ45 project?

95eighty on here walks by that rig multiple times a day; he's one of the fab guys at millenworks........

can i have it? :D

:D I asked the same thing and the response was "Sure for $350,000 you can have it, if it were for sale"
Its actually one of Rods favorite cars.At heart I think he is a cruiserhead like the rest of us. He drives a 100 series daily and has a 40 back in New Zealand that he loves to drive.

What would you like to know?:)

I have many questions about this truck. I'll start with the body questions.Where was the original fj45 body cut to add the extra inches in width and length? I read somewhere that the front fenders where widened. I guess the front hood, wind shieldshied frame, bib, roof and rear doors cut down the middle and a new pieces of metal welded in? Where on the side panels were the inches added? Thx

The body was diced in many areas. The orignal floor pan was completely removed. The main body was cut down the center and new sheet metal was added. So was the hood and front bib.The fenders were infact widened also by nearly 2 inchs.
The floor pan from the 100 series was grafted in to the 45 body and there was still a lot of work down to the rear part of the pan to make room for the the IRS.(not the tax people:grinpimp: )All new glass was cut for the 45 and all the electric window mechanisms from the 100 were grafted into the 45 doors.

All the widing and lengthening was done to accomadate the old body to the 100 series frame. Would it have been easier to modify the new frame to fit underneath the fj45 body? Where did the donor 45 come from?
Was there any talk about a possible megacruiser project at the time?
Thx
