thats a good idea, but i dont think your feet are that heavy are they.shouldnt sink in any more than the hinge allows the table to unfold. i started putting a small round metal disk in the pocket of my riding jacket the first time i found my honda cbr leaning precariously to one side. on a hot day the kick stand would sink right into the ashpalt.

Personally, I would leave the front open so you could store all the gear in the front seats, you could also leave the windows open for ventilation as well.
Great idea, it would take some tweaking to do with my soft top, but you've really got me thinking now. I camp with the scouts rain, snow or shine 10 months a year so quick and easy setup are a must for me.

I love practical cheap stuff like that. What did you use for fabric? Be sure to notify if you have a bunch made!
Its 1.9oz silicone-coated ripstop nylon. I got it from a tent supply company as I didn't want to experiment with a fabric that might not turn out to be properly waterproof.
You're right - I'm just going to lay a board underneath the feet. Its not so much the weight while you're sleeping, as only your legs are out there, but rather getting in and out of the tent really presses on that part.
I wanted to put a zipper in the front panel, but I just ran out of zipper! Instead you can just unhook the top of the tent from the horizontal bar and it folds down to allow you out in front. Also notice that I didn't make a roof for the tent, so there is a small ~4" gap between the top of the tent walls and the roof - if you leave the windows open it will ventilate plenty. I did this to help with the condensation.
The canopy is light, a pound or so of fabric and maybe another pound of zippers, hooks, and webbing. The real weight is in the floor, which is 3/8" particle board - thats pretty heavy, maybe 20 pounds. The folding portion of the floor has ribs as you can see for strength which increases the thickness. Folded its about 1.5"-2" thick - two layers of 3/8" flooring, .75" of ribs, and then some error for the canopy, depending on how well you pack it and lay the hard bits like zippers down.
As far as I know, the rear door frame's dimensions are the same regardless of the type of doors, which means the tent will fit in both amby door'd and hatch'd trucks. The only difference would be how you tug the outer portion of the tent upwards - I use a bar across the amby doors, but one could just hang it from the hatch itself (the hatch has prop rods, right? not gas springs?) with perhaps an extra hook or bungie cord. The bottom line is, if I can find someone's hatch'ed 40 to look at at SnT then I'm sure the tent will work as-is, plus some minor changes to those external straps. Should be no issue at all.

I'm working on that. The kicker is that you don't want me to sew them, I'm trying to find some labor and their costs will help determine how much these would be.
Nope, mad rush to get everything done, will probably be working up untill I leave on thursday, I will be lucky to pull in on saturday. Just look for the other BJ42 at SNT and you can check it out then.

Still a work in progress. I'm working on the drawings presently, which I need in order to get a price for manufacture. Its going a little slow to reconcile my original CAD drawings, pieces that actually got cut/attached, and the on-the-fly modifications I made. Expect 2 weeks or so before I know a price.
Well as far as sleeping goes I thought it was great. My tent fits a twin air mattress so it was downright cushy. As for having sex in it... no comment.
I'll post some "action shots" from SnT tonight... of the tent, not the sex.
