So I have been piling up some parts for some time, and decided to make a post because I have been neglecting them. And maybe I will be more inclined to getting things done.

My plans are:

•Carb Rebuild (myself)
•Desmog
•Motor Mounts
•Headers
•New Exhaust
•Hopefully not mess anything up

This is gonna be hard to get all this done being a highschooler and all. Plus my brothers car isn't finished yet either. Which leaves us no car, to go to school, ect.

So basically have to get it done in a weekend! Woo.

FSM, Oh Yeahhh. And carb kit.

Hopefully were being realistic here. I am ancious to see how we can get this done! Any advice ya'll have to make things easier would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Good luck! I hope you have a bike.

If you are serious about keeping down time to weekends, I would break it down into 2, one for the carb/desmog and one for the exhaust/motormount. But then you have the advantage of daylight and decent temperatures, so maybe you can pull it off in one go.

it can be donw in one weekend by yourself if you bust a$$ and even easier if you have good help

Good luck! That's a hefty project. Have you read up on the desmog threads? There is a lot of info around here, just do a good search. I'm in the middle of mine and will post a thread when complete. I have no time limit really so I'm taking it slow. But for a general idea - I am disabling the EGR and AI systems. I'm leaving the HAC in place since I live near the mountains. You might want to think about the advance on your dissy once you remove the EGR. I am having mine re-curved by Jim C per his recommendation.
Also - maybe a flush and refill on your clutch MC - looks low :-)

Are you sure you even need to desmog? I changed out the old cracked vacuum tubing and disconnected the egr, and I'm pretty happy with the performance. And that was a 3 hour, couple-beer project with less chance of screwing something up. You might want to consider at least trying new tubing before tearing the system up.

I'd agree with the post above - make it two weekends, there's nothing that says you need to get it all done in one.

I see a hose you have hooked up wrong. It won't matter since you are desmoggin it anyway.

I'm not going to tell you that you can or cannot get it done in a weekend or two. You really need to plan for the unexpected. Broken bolts, header not bolting up to the exhaust flange, Intake manifold warped, etc.

The engine mounts are not hard to replace. Much easier with two people.

You could buy or borrow some ones FJ60 carb and send yours off to get rebuilt and desmogged. Jim Chenowith or Mark in Burbank do this. I have used them both and they both do great work. When the wrenching weekend comes, just bolt your newly rebuilt one on.

Good luck.

Having done one myself, it would probably take max 20 hours including wait times for the solvent to do it's thing on the parts to be cleaned. I did it in roughly that amount of time back when I was 17, and it purred like a kitten after I adjusted the float correctly. It's really not as hard as everyone says it is.

Plus, after rebuilding it, you really get an understanding as to how it works!

Once again, good luck!

Do the desmog and carb rebuild seperately so if something isn't right you when your done you know where the problem is.

I got my brother to help me out :) We are both 17. He has his own project right now too.

Yeah I have read up on them and found all the juicy pictures.

This thread being the best: https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/188643-my-desmog-thread.html

Yeah my clutch master is pretty sick. It's leaking on the inside too.

My smog pump has been gutted for some time, and some part of my EGR was "removed" a while back.

Two weekends. Is what its gonna be plus I'll be able to tell the difference of the carb rebuild+headers. At different times.

I am also interested in knowing how it works. Plus it is way cheaper to do yourself. We will see how well it turns out. I'm only 17 :bounce:

About the motor mounts. Is there some special procedure I need to follow? I searched a while back and all I found was "repairing" them ran than replacing.

Thanks for the responses guys. I hope to work on this soon.

So I got my front mounts replaced a week ago, and it solved the my problem. The DS mount was ripped in half and the PS was okay. We replaced both.
Then had some fun.

To the point. So yesterday I tried to replace my rear mount. Got the entire thing apart and then tried to bolt on the new one. Didn't fit. Turned out it was an H motor mount, it literally had an "H" on the rubber, and then my old one an "F" so I assumed that Specter sent me the wrong part. The "H" mount was really close to fitting too. But now I learned to always check part numbers!

And in the process of putting it back together I can't get one of the bolts back in. This is really hard to describe without a picture, but I'll try.
The transmission crossmember ties into the frame with brackets on both sides that are bolted to the frame. And on the middle piece, the main part of the crossmember, all the bolts fit except for one. The hole just doesn't quite line up. Any reasons why? I drove it around hoping it would settle and fit but no luck. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.

Thanks guys!
