How well does the "AWD" system function with the viscous coupler removed (1 Viewer)

Hmmm interesting. I wonder if it uses the same viscous fluid similar to a fan clutch. I am hoping to get one that isn't burnt up and drill a hole and see. lol

Yep, that one had internal pressure, when it cut through, the cap flew off and caught the owner in the jewels!

Slightly different perspective here. I've driven and owned a variety of different 4wd setups. I had a '76 Wagoneer for awhile with a BW 1305 Quadratrac in it. This case is similar to the LC case with the VC in that it used two clutch cones to transfer power back and forth. Many people hate the 1305, but with new cones and a new chain, the damn thing is nearly unstoppable in the snow. It drove very similarly to my '96 LX450. I find both cases are great for daily driving when they are in good condition. It also allows me to have peace of mind when a lesser skilled driver (like my gf) drives. She actually drove my '76 for a couple of rugged Maine winters, and never had an issue with traction. If you asked her if she'd rather have the '76 back for winter storm driving or her XJ, I bet she'd say the SJ!

We take the LX450 all over New England in the winter over her 4wd (non Awd optioned) XJ. It is just a more stable, safe vehicle with its Awd and VC.
