Viscous Coupler - Reinstall or Toss?

With an AWD truck if you loose traction at 1 wheel you loose drive to all wheels. With the VC in there, if you loose traction at 1 wheel the VC will transfer some drive to the axle that has traction in hopes of helping to drive out. I'd keep it.

I am looking for a viscous coupler for my 94LC. I am the only owner. The truck kicks out on slow turns, even screeches. I understand that is due to a defective viscous coupler. I'd like a new one, but if a used one were said to be good, I might take that. My mechanic wont install it unless it is new. He says he cant get a hold of one but i'm not sure i believe him. Thanks all for your help.

I'm regearing my transfer case. My viscous coupler was working fine before I pulled the case apart.
Now that it's sitting on my garage floor, I'm looking at it and thinking I might ditch it.
Thoughts?
