Thanks @fj401978 for the kind comments. It is more compelling when a third party says it, but he expressed exactly my motivations. This objective is make this happen in a way that is tolerable to your bank account, and to mine. By normal business economics judgement it's very difficult to make a business case for this piece, and I highly doubt any company will do it. As I posted in the Unobtainium thread, keep in mind Toyota originally sold the mat for close to $500 in 1980's dollars, and they got that price point despite having the benefit of mass production.

One way to save on cost is to buy the same material in bulk for both the '78 and earlier version of the mat as well as the '79 and later version. However, as you know the colors are different. To pick one color between black and gray, it has to be gray because the later cars have additional mat material under the seat so it has to match. The '78 and earlier cars just have the front mat. Not sure how many of you guys have seen it, but the overseas models also have a brown color mat (e.g. in the LX model).

In any case, that's one way to cut cost. The other way is to use thinner material. OEM mat is about 2mm. The thinner material would be 1.5mm. Half a mm isn't that noticeable, but in percentage terms it's a notable difference. The thick material is 3.0mm, so it exceeds OEM spec.

I would definitely vote for the $350. $400. price point - this is on my wish list but have other things that have to be done before the matt
- Thanks Racer65 - if you do it - I'm in!

I picked up the mat from the post office on Saturday and open it to relax on the shop floor. I'll pull the OEM mat and do a side by side. Overall it looks nice - the logo is a bit smaller than the OEM but the cut outs seem to match. Stay tuned

I'll have them this weekend. I've been distracted buy some other things the last few weeks. I should be back on track shortly.....

Nothing yet - I promise that I'll post this weekend

Any luck with pictures?

The holy grail on eBay for $2900!

Only worth it if you have just finished a restore and plan on selling it. For $2900 not many would install and then hit the trail. Have to have a lot deeper pockets then mine.

It looks like the first one of the reproduction floor mats just pulled from the mold

about $250 in 2005 when I bought the last one on the world(that was stocked by Toyota) I tried to buy another....but all gone :(

I wonder how much these listed for from the dealer.

just a few more words on that $2900 floor mat.
If you bothered to check the E-Bay listing and all of the pictures.....You would have discovered that the item is actually an original OEM floor mat (not a reproduction) complete with bag and date stamped Toyota tags and was removed for display purposes only.... better yet the seller actually has more unopened HOLY GRAIL units in stock !!!!

Uhhh seriously? You could just come out and say you own (or work for) BTB Products. Better yet, become a paid MUD Vendor and open a store front on here. :flipoff2:

I figured it was OEM NOS. Still stand by what I said. Once you used it it's no longer NOS and it's worth a fraction of what you paid for it. Unless you plan on just looking at your cruiser or plan on flipping it this is not a good investment. You could just buy and hope to sell it for more later. But once repos start showing the value will drop. At one time stamped LAND CRUISER bezels could bring $600 on eBay. With as many repos as there are floating around $600 would be hard to do now. There are always those who will pay bill bucks to get a NOS OEM part but I'm not one of them. I buy parts with the idea of actually using them not just looking at them.

Did you just add the PTO? I got parts from a 84 HJ47RV from Australia. Believe I took a picture of the floor for reference for the PTO opening. Pretty sure the opening is forward where the marking is. It was also longer and was further thru the floor.
