I picked up the mat from the post office on Saturday and open it to relax on the shop floor. I'll pull the OEM mat and do a side by side. Overall it looks nice - the logo is a bit smaller than the OEM but the cut outs seem to match. Stay tuned

Would curious if shifters not only match location but shape also. Racer65 picture in post 89 in this thread shows the different style boots used the last couple of years.

Skillful search, know someone or dumb luck?

Complete and utter dumb luck! A random road trip with my cousin to pick up a 86 bmw 325 convertible he bought sight unseen. I found a great guy in Florida who is a complete cruiser head that I also bought a 84 fj60 trans and tcase from and as we were talk he asked if I wanted a original floor mat. That entire trip was random and full of surprises but it all turned out for the best.

What happened with your floor mat?

I haven't read through all the posts here but I think I have a different view of the factory floor mat than most; I've never liked them much. I'm specifically referencing 1978 era 40s as that's what I have. I haven't spent any real time with a '79 and later 40 in 20+ years. It's been longer than that with the early stuff.

While it's obviously been years since I saw new one and mine is not in pristine shape (one small tear and a missing snap) I am less than impressed with the design. I think the tread pattern is silly and the coverage poor. I have no interest in another copy at any price.

What I would be willing to pay, say, a buck and a half for - maybe two - is a decently textured, easy to clean, easy to remove and clean underneath rubber mat that covers well under the seats and around the jack mounting points and perhaps folds up and over the gas tank cover ('78 and earlier). I don't care about a Toyota logo or some silly "Cruisers R Rad" embossed design. I say this as someone who restored their 40 more than fifteen years ago with many more factory parts than are available to restorers today. There. I said it. I'm wearing asbestos so feel free to flame.

Well, if everyone thinks like you, problem solved!

I for one would appreciate a reproduction floor mat for the 77 I just restored. For a nice repro I would of paid 500 plus for it. It would of been the crowning jewel on a true nut and bolt restoration.

Alas I sold it and now I'm building a 40 with its transfer case being the only Toyota part. Everything coming from Racer has been top notch and I know this will be no different.

Comparing a restore fifteen years ago to today is like apples and oranges. Today a restored FJ40 will bring money you could never dreamed of fifteen years ago. The more original the more it's worth. Don't believe anyone has ever said the factory floor mat was the best possible design but it's the only one that is original.

I have the original floor-mat that is in decent shape considering its 38 yrs old (11/77 build) ... my truck isn't pristine (its been de-smogged as a starting point), but nevertheless I try to do the OEM thing as much as I can even if it costs more or there's a better, cheaper aftermarket alternative ... I'm willing to wait for the Racer OEM reproduction given my OCD tendencies ...

What are people's thoughts on the Aussie mats available from CCOT?

I realize the "look" isn't right and clearly no Toyota logo but how well do they fit compared to the original factory or other available mats? Secondary concern...noise and heat. I think I'd rather have a thicker mat (assuming it fit well) then sticking insulation to the floor just b/c of the moisture trapping potential. The Aussie mat claims to be "very heavy duty" and help with heat/sound but there are no actual specs on thickness.

I'm going to need to purchase something soon for my Dec/78 truck. Racer65's repo is of interest for sure but still would like to know how it would compare to the Aussie mat from CCOT both in fit and functionality regarding heat/noise. If the same - I'll buy Racer65. If I'm sacrificing sound/heat deading for aesthetics I'll buy Aussie. This is assuming the fit is equivalent.

From my personal experience with Racer65 products, it will be far supior to what CCOT provides, and in my opinion, will be an upgrade from factory OEM. From a functional stand point that is

I prefer the "as close to OEM as possible" but would love extra thickness plus sound deadening and heat shield on the back. Would look original but provide meaningful "invisible" better performance. Please name the price and schedule. I am ready to buy one.
