Well I hope I'm not raising concerns about nothing..

Time will tell I guess..

Your right Tom I forgot the hand brake location changed. Most the early changes probably are carpeting kits and those probably had a rubber insert for the driver's heel. So unless the late model had the hand brake opening uncut it will be wrong for our LHD here in the US.

I believe the 10/82 change has to do with the start of the rare five speed which the inspection cover got a little taller. Never seen a 83 close enough to inspect the cover but a HJ47 with a four speed has the taller cover. The type and location of PTO shifter changed at the same time

Let's compare the Australian replica to the OEM floor mat. I think the visual differences are minor:
1) The handbrake cutout pattern is on the opposite side, but it does not appear to be pre-cut
2) Logo and the cosmetic circle to the left of the shifter hole are a little different because it's based on the '84 final iteration that was not sold in the U.S.

Hi Racer65

This is interesting (and I'm looking closer now than ever before)..

Here's some photos of my original mat in my 1979 BJ40:

Notice how the "place-your-feet lined-pattern" is the same width (which is around 340mm at the point shown) on both sides but where I am (as the driver on the right hand side) it has an extra width (of approx 60mm) of relatively flat floor beside it to give me a wider floor-width than my passenger has.

In taking these photos, I've only now realised that they've deliberately kept this "place your feet pattern" the same width on each side ... so perhaps this means RHD and LHD mats are indeed interchangeable except for the handbrake cut-out markings? :meh:

PS. I find this very interesting. In this part of the world the centre passenger has always had a hell of a time working out where to put their legs. It looks like LHD vehicles make this easier for passengers by giving them the larger floor-space!

The size of the logo would bother me the most. The late transmission boot ring not as much. Not sure if the extra height on the inspection cover would make a loose fit. I have the late boot but to use it on a LHD would require straightening the shifter where it bend towards the right. This shifter bends towards the back sooner and the boot reflects this.

The logo is correct for late model cars. Take a look at this photo of a '83 BJ42 LX from Australia:

I did not know that as the 84 troopy had no mat but rather bedliner covering the entire floor. That picture does highlight the raised section around the T/T shifters. It also does not have a PTO section cutout that matches what was used on the 84.:meh: That wasn't shaped like that at all. It is a inner boot and flat upper rubber boot which would work I guess. Does make a nice option if they aren't cutting out the hand brake opening and leaving that to the buyer.

Forgot to mention the transfer boot is shaped different also. Not sure how that opening would match up.

Center passenger isn't a problem in the US as all FJ40s (only 4X series model the US got after 67) starting with the 73 model had bucket seats.

Sorry. I forgot about the USA having buckets....

Our authorities here have never liked the lack-of-safety associated with the centre-passenger's lap belt (with our bench seat arrangement) so no doubt the USA authorities would have balked at that even more...

Talking of bent shifters, everyone should ignore my gearbox shifter because I bent that to give my centre-passenger more leg-room.

Errr. Perhaps I should be more truthful (since I'm never a centre-passenger). I guess my real reason was to stop the centre-passenger from knocking my cruiser out-of-gear.

@lostmarbles let's see a pic of your seat.

I don't know why you want it... It's getting dark here and this is the best I could do a few minutes ago:

Marbles - I've got to ask, what is the red contraption around your clutch & brake pedal? Never seen that before....:hmm:

That contraption is something I made for a bit of extra security. (It's a bit of a distraction so I should probably have removed it before taking the photo. I thought about doing this but in the end I was too lazy.)

FWIW I told Peter that my 40 is LHD.

Well that's certainly a good sign for the mat being compatible with LHD models because he's a good trader from my experience..
:)

Said that they received black mats in their latest shipment not grey. I'm a patient person and Peter has been keeping me updated on his troubles.

I picked up the mat from the post office on Saturday and open it to relax on the shop floor. I'll pull the OEM mat and do a side by side. Overall it looks nice - the logo is a bit smaller than the OEM but the cut outs seem to match. Stay tuned
