So lets have it... how many of you put the windshield down when wheeling?

1. Do you like it?

2. How is your vision when looking at the lines in front of you?

Personally I had it down once... for about 10 minutes... Then I realized I couldn't really see the trail in front of me with it down..

Any tricks?

On many East Coast trails if you don't lower your windshield you stand a very good chance of putting it into a dirt bank, root, or tree and destroying it. Some people go one step further and remove the entire thing before hitting the trails. Mine is usually in the down position and I have no problems seeing trail obstacles.

any chance I get it gows down......love it

Don't have a whole lot of deadly trees here, can easily duck if they get too close, i love wheeling (and street driving) with windshield down.

I almost always take mine off to wheel - one less thing to tear up. Takes two minutes and the front cage bar takes care of most of the branches.;)

Always have the windshield down when wheeling.

Keeps it out of harms way somewhat. If I could get the screws out, I would take it off.

I used to play in the bush with the screen down, in Far Nth Queensland, with stinging/ripping plants, green tree ants and bloody big spiders in your face:eek:.
I dont put my windscreen down anymore:idea:

1. I like it...a lot!

2. Vision is fine for me. A. Being 6'3, it's easier to see over the top of the w/s frame. B. the pre-73 rigs have the offset driver's seat, so I'm used to doing a fair amount of trail spotting out the side of the rig anyways.

BTW, interesting poll.:)

Don't take the screws out - just drive the pins out of the hinges. Takes a bit the first time but then you can clean them up and put a little lube on them. Takes two minutes after that.;)

I like down best

i always have it down when it is warm enough

If I'm on a trail the windshield is down. I've also made a bung on my winch mount so I can screw
in a old CB antenna as a spider stick to knock down spider webs b4 they get to me.

Wow ALOT of people like it!!!

I do love having it down, i just wish I could see better... I am 5' 10" so it's not like I'm super short

I might have to try just taking it off...

Thanks for answering the second question Mark!

I've removed mine completely and mounted lexan in the rollbar a-pillar . Then I made a filler panel to go between the cowl and horizontal bar at the bottom of the lexan . There are too many trees where I wheel to run anything else . I use a manual boat wiper to clear the rain .

I put it down only if the trail is open otherwise I'm eating pine needles and stickers. I'm about 5'10 1/2" but i don't have a problem seeing, i do have a subaru seat that has a raise and lower function which is nice.

Put the windshield down or remove it when wheeling. When you flop, it will save you ~$400 to $500. Solid straight windshield frames are getting harder to find. Ask me how I know.

Hi All:

I've rubbed and bent my wind shield frame against many a tree over the last few years. I've started dropping it whenever the weather allows to minimize further damage.

I'm at 5'10" tall as well and don't have any visibility issues.

Here is a photo for you:
