How many of you have a "half cab" like this?

PS. Oooh. Looks remarkably similar to Andrew's and we both live in Wellington. So perhaps it is his.

I heard a story of one that was for sale that sat in a dealer showroom for years with a half-cab. I assumed most were non-factory, but it sounded like there might be a rare animal that is factory.

Here's a pic:

Yes - that's Gertrude :)

OK then. I saw another dark red one parked in town yesterday. If it's there again today I'll snap that one and post it. (Must be a lot in our neck of the woods.)

Never seen one, but I like the look!

Were half-cabs a factory option, or are they a strictly home-brewed thing?

home brewed, often by putting a 45 top on a 40, with a piece of sheet metal for the lower section, and a couple of notches to clear the rail

Yep custom made $100 and 2 bottles of bourbon:grinpimp:
This top is in two parts, you can just see how the top over laps the wind jammer with a full Velcro strip across the back along with the two tension straps, in side there is a row of little ties that fix to the cage too to keep the wind jammer taught, down the sides just above the side view windows is also Velcroed so it can be used as a wind jammer or a bikini top and together to make a whole roof.

Looks like an FJ43 they have the slightly longer rear

I just put the angle grinder through a perfectly good rust free side panels and cut the door frames out of it:D

I cut the out side longer than the inside and folded the edges over.

The cage forms the rest of the frame along with a bar between the top of the two door frames over the cage to tension the roof.

How much do the all alum half tubs go for?
Very cool looking rigs.

I have a couple dozen photos of Costa Rican BJ40 tow trucks with tops like that - they used to be all over, but I see less and less of them every time I go down... I think a few ended up in a Toyota Trails travel photo issue several years ago.

Thanks for the pics, are the door frames attached to the cage in anyway or do they just float there?

Shotgun

Hey Shotgun, that looks super great. Did you do it yourself? Would you share plans?

The short cabs are all over Costa Rica mostly wreckers. I am going there again in March and will try to get one out.

Kbill45 Thanks Yeah did it myself with my sons help. I'm doing rig of the week next week so i'll post up more pics there.
