Had to pull the axle shaft to replace an outer shaft seal. How do I determine if the pinion shaft is worn. There are a few scuffs on it but I'm no expert and I saw nothing in the factory manual on wear of this piece.

You should be able to tell by the noises a badly worn pinion will make.

Whirring, groaning, etc coupled with jumpiness and general bad behavior can all e caused by this.

I would also HIGHLY, and I mean HIGHLY! suggest you drop your rear driveshaft to ensure you have a nice, tight pinion nut that is properly struck.

If that nut ever comes loose...KABOOM, big time.

The shaft in the center of the diff. I had to pull it to yank the axle to replace an outer seal. This is some minor scrubbing on it. SOR had it for $13 so I ordered it anyways.
