Also just had a pretty fun Land Cruiser related road trip. Buddy of mine
@willywalnuts2025 picked up a 2000 LC from a listing we found here on Mud. Flew out to Salt Lake City and met the owner, struck a deal in a parking lot by the airport and hit the highway.

Rig is pretty nice overall! Has its fair share of dings and dents, and a couple lurking rust bubbles we weren't made aware of ahead of time, but overall its a nicely built 100, with Ironman foam cell pro suspension, a nice bumper and supewinch 12k, Prinsu rack and awning. Plus a fantastic Alpine stereo setup with all new speakers and a bumpin sub. This thing sounds GREAT.
Anywho, we hit the road late friday night headed west, and made it to Wendover. Racked out in a casino and made plans to scope out the slat flats in the morning. However, plans changed when we awoke to a low battery light on the dash. We hoofed it to carquest in wendover and confirmed 11.94V on the multimeter. Previous owner had just thrown a brand new interstate in it the day before... so we assumed it was a bad Alternator.
Carquest had none in stock, so the hunt began, ended up locating a NAPA in Elko that said they could get it in stock by 3 pm. Elko is 100 miles west, so we bought a spare battery and hoped for the best! We made it into Elko, having turned off any accessories, especially the awesome stereo... and AC. Battery read 11.2V once we hit Elko. We had a few hours to kill waiting for the Alt, so we had NAPA charge our battery on a tender and headed for the Star Hotel, and old school basque restaurant that had a great bar and pretty damn good burger. We trooped around elko for a bit discussing our options, and when the alternator arrived at 3 we decided we could limp it further west with our topped off battery and a spare in the trunk.
Hit the road towards Reno, and made it another 125 miles to Winnemucca. We located an Oreilly's there who would loan us some tools and had a shady spot in the parking lot. There we tackled the Alternator job, which was a 2 banana affair in my opinion. Having to remove the PS pump in order to free the alt was the 1st challenge, but birthing that big alternator out from below, dodging all the trans cooler lines, lower rad hose and everything else was no picnic. We finally got it swapped out, and were covered in grease for our efforts. New Alt did the trick, and she was charging great, 14.2 on the multimeter! Big thanks to the kind folks at Oriellys in Winnemucca for loaning us all the tools we needed, and even a bucket to stand on to get into the hood.
Covered in grease, sweaty and tired, but feeling accomplished and happy to have a fully functioning electrical system, we once again set out west.
Made it to Reno by 9:30 and headed downtown for some late night grub and beers. Beers were had, perhaps a few more than neccesary, but enjoyed all the same, and a few hours sleep in the cruiser saw us ready to make the trek home. She did great up over the pass and down into the valley, and we were home by 9 Am.
All in all a great trip, happy to help a buddy score a new camping/hunting/ adventure rig, and a little unexpected wrenching along the way actually made for a pretty fun story in the end.
