Holy relay rod! What the hell?!

Southead, I would still check everything over very well. I have never seen a rod bend like that by just the pressure from the power steering system. Even with lockers on. Either that rod was kinked a lot before, or something else went on. When rock crawling one can sometimes get in a situation where the truck does not want to turn at all, even with power steering maxed out and it still does not bend the rod.

Do you have a pic from before possibly?

I think this says it all. Slee has been drug through the mud by the owner of the truck in question and is still offering help with the problem. That says a lot about Christo's customer service. You tell me how many people after being badmouthed would still continue to offer help.

Why is it that this thread sucked me in....

I know if I had to give away product for free or at a $ loss every time a vendor/supplier was late on delivery, or I was out of stock on an item... I would be out of business.

In this case the customer was frustrated having to wait for single part from his vendor, Slee. Christo was frustrated having to wait for 40 pieces from his vendor and more over, possibly losing out on sales due to not having inventory on hand. Sounds like a push to me.

Impatience only lead to higher levels of frustration for all parties. IMHO, demands for compensation seem kind of ridiculous... even if there had been a guaranteed delivery date, which there wasn't. Not sure how supply chain problems got equated with bad customer service in this case.

Wish I had something to say about that relay rod other than WTF????

I have had nothing but positive dealings with sleeoffroad.com.

I did, however, think of this thread when I saw this:

Moderator, please move this to Chat or Schat as there is little to no tech going on here just a bunch of bull**** sword fighting.

I disagree, my only post in this thread was full of tech. In fact there was so much tech in my post this thread deserves to stay in 80's tech. How will someone find my valuable input on 80's series steering components if this thread isn't in 80's tech.

Of course what this thread is really missing to make it the ultimate 80's tech thread is tech on how to care for your leather.

This thread is unbelievable. Extortion???I understand having a gripe at a vendor, but posting it public on a tech thread is a cheap shot. On top of that, your fiance drops in unexpected, and fires some more shots...... unbelievable. Get your jewels back from her and call Slee to work this out. I think this is a better thread on which CUSTOMERS vendors should watch out for.

Christo, I like the new banner ad. Looks sharp.

Trying to get something free, huh? You get a free DIY kit..... wait for it, it's on it's way.

Beno is stuck in a Turkish prision and he is visiting mud as a last resort.......

Well I've been driving my rig around town for the last couple of days and took it out to Trabuco Canyon yesterday to put it thru the paces in 4wheel too.

It really was just a bent/weak relay rod and locked front. Just the binding of the wheels-on-pavement coupled with tweaked rod was too much stress on the system

I wish I had a "prior to effed" pic of my rod but I don't.

I'm glad it wasn't anything more serious than that.

As for the everyone else, I never intending on getting "something for free", I just wanted Slee to deliver me a complete kit that I had been waiting on for a month. If that meant they had to upgrade one-part to get that done I didn't think that was unreasonable. Obviously others disagree.

Ultimately...
a year for now will I even care? Probably not
was the whole experience a hassle? It was
Do I think the product is good? Yeah
Do I hope this happens to anyone else? I hope not.

If anyone gets anything from this. If a vendor says "we'll have that parts in just a day or two." Wait a few days before forking over the cash and see if they actually get it and can ship it out.

Well now that were almost back on the subject. That happened to my relay rod too! But mine was on a tough rock crawling trail coupled w/ 37" tires, and the rod curved up instead of down. I didn't even realize it had happened until I couldn't turn right at the top of a climb. We straightened it as best we could and limped it on up the trail being careful to not stress it too much more. Then we limped 30 miles to the nearest hardware store and installed a piece of conduit pipe over the bent rod in the parking lot. And that piece of conduit remained on there until that landcruiser passed away. Actually I still have the pipe in the garage.

My truck has been in the shop for a month getting a cage, I want it for free too :flipoff2:

Glad you got your rod fixed and back on the truck and your buddy seems to have removed it from his other place :)

Everyone chill! Don't tear down your truck until you source and receive your parts...that is the REAL tech lesson here.

Dang it Dan, you should have been more specific to them. I stopped by to see the progress of your "cage" and they took me out back and showed me this...
I hope this is the type cage you're expecting....

WTf, my 80 turned into an import sedan!

hahaha, it's just a prototype for the cage... that cage should fit the cado just fine.

This thread has degraded to chat, clearly it has since you and I are posting here

My posts are never productive and have little value. I should be kicked off all forums.
However, I contributed to that tech thread, "How does one tie ones own shoe laces?"
