Hitch mount bike rack and slee bumper w/ swingout

I'm looking for a hitch mount bike rack that can hold 4 bikes. It needs to work with my slee rear bumper w/tire swing out, I'm not worried about having to take the rack off to get into the rear of the truck, but I am worried that most racks won't have enough tongue clearance and will hit the tire.

Anybody got a solution?

In OZ a company make a swing out hitch mount carrier, so you can swing the bikes out of the way and get into the vehicle, I have seen one, and IIRC it goes behind a Nissan Patrol with rear wheel, but not sure on dimensions or if it would go behind a LC with swing out carrier. I can see if I can chase it up if you're not in a hurry.

I HIGHLY recommend the Thule T2 w/ the 2" receiver mount. You can put any bike short of a tandem on this thing, with no swinging, banging or wheel removal. With the 2" receiver, you can get a 2-bike add-on for a total of 4-bikes if you like.

I've measured it last year and it looked like there should be plenty of clearance using the receiver in the Slee bumper. Regardless, you may want to go to a brick&mortar store to make sure it fits with your spare tire size.

I don't know if something like that would work for the OP but I meant just put a receiver on the swing out arm and then any receiver bike carrier would fit but swing out the way with the wheel. On mine I put a receiver in the middle of the spare which the license plate mounts to and then made a bike rack that can be inserted between the two but that was more fab work than I was suggesting to the OP.

I looked at this one and it was one of my favs, but I ultimately needed something that held four bikes. Check out Softride's company video at my link above. I'll shoot a quick video of my Softride and 100 today.

How heavy is the Softride? I have a Yakima Bighorn 4 bike rack and it's light, but bulky to store. I liked the fact that the Kuat folds up into a small package that is 11lbs.

Anyway, back to the OP's question. I had dual swing outs on the Princess (4BTJ60) that I used an extension to mount my bike rack like the one pictured above. Easy, cheap and works fine.

we have a Thule 4 bike rack with high mount. Folds down backwards but of course you'd have the weight of 4 bikes to deal with. Probably awkward.

if you're gonna get an extension, consider the double one (2 receivers on top of each other), more versatile.

Thanks for all the input. My 1st requirement is the rack must hold 4 bikes, I did some measuring and from the pin to the tire is just shy of 10.5". I found a great site that has the hitch clearance for most of the common racks out there.

I have Thule 4 bike rack..it's very steady and does not wobble like many others...it's not the regular pin type..it's get fixed to the hitch with a nut

I can easily open both the rear hatchs with the bike rack on...this should give you an idea about the clearance...

I don't think you get it. He's asking for bike carriers that specifically will fit his 100 series with the SLEE BUMPER AND TIRE CARRIER, meaning that one you are promoting will not work.

I get it. I'm showing him [and everyone else] options. This rack moves out of the way different from any other rack on the market. Whether or not it will work depends on several measurements, including the Softride tongue length, size of ckkone's spare tire, etc.

Ck - this is coming out very soon. I'll be in Vegas later this month at Interbike to release it. It's got a two-bike add-on as well. I don't have the Slee bumper and rear tire carrier on the our hundy, but I can switch the prototype NV rack over from my fj40 and take a measurement for you if it would be helpful.

I understand you really need to have a 4 bike capacity. What type of bike frames are you mounting and how often do you need to take around all 4 bikes? THe reason I ask is that the reality of the usability of some of the different products on the market changes depending on whether you are mounting simple hardtail frames vs complex full-suspension frames.

I've been using a Kuat Alpha -the pic Dave posted above- for the last few months and love it, but it has the same challenges that all post racks have w/ full-suspension frames. I personally can't wait to get my hands on a production NV, but I doubt I'll add the 2-bike add-on bc I don't like the length of 4-bike tray racks. I'm only 5'-6" and it's a real PITA to load a bike on the roof w/o a stepladder, but when I need to carry 6-7 bikes for shuttle runs -and I've got the interior loaded w/ passengers and gear- I'll bust out the ladder or make the tall fokkers load the bikes up top.
