Can someone provide me with some incite on this problem?

At speeds above 50mph in my 01 LX my front end feels very lose and the steering wheel gets a moderate shake to it. Tires where recently balanced, my mechanic said he checked all the front end stuff and everything looked tight.

Maybe bad u joints? Maybe I need an alignment?

Check for play at the U-joints. Additionally. Did you recently adjust torsion bars or level the suspension? Removing the rake can lead the front end to wander.

My suspension desperately needs to be leveled. I think it was adjust a little by my mechanic, but he said the bolts were really rusted and it was hard for him to get movement out of them.

I've been chasing front end issues on my LX for a long time now  how do your shock bushings look? Is your AHC in good condition? Steering tight? Have you completely ruled out tires?

Ahc has been replaced with LC suspension, bar end links replaced, all I know about the tires is they looks fairly new, otherwise I guess I can't fully rule them out.

I know I need an alignment, it's the only for sure I know.

FWIW, I have a similar issue in my 99. I'm planning to pull my rear driveshaft and take it for a spin to see if that helps. If not you can rule out u joints.

The balance could still be off, if you feel the shake come and go with different speeds- it's prob balance.

Shop that balanced the tires didn't torque the front lugs nuts on either side. We shared some words and now I'm up and running again

Yikes!

Stock wheel are very difficult to balance on the 100 series.

Provided your front wheel bearings, axle bearings & bushing and front drive shaft have been properly serviced and are in good working order, along with shocks, TREs & ball joints as your mechanic states. I try a Road Force Balance machine.

A few Discount tire shop have a Road Force Balance machine, but few techs know how to use properly. Many Toyota & Porsche Dealers etc.. also have and tend to have better trained techs.

Tip: To find out if your mechanic understand the proper set-up of for the 100 series wheel bearing, asking him what the breakaway preload should be set to? If he states 9.5 to 15ft-lb you have a winner.
