Help me convince my wife I NEED sliders on my 97

My slider story is a bit long but I will shorten it. I got mine without asking......and had them at work. My shipper and I had them opened up on the dock and were admiring them when my wife strolled in, unannounced......

"What are those things for honey?"................

I do not lie too well so I spilled my guts then and there. :whoops:

Better there in front of a bunch of people than where she has easy access to kitchen utensiles and no witnesses. :D

I heard she quietly trained the family pooch to exact revenge some time later .. much later .

Always wondered where those scars came from.....................

Just do it. She may not even notice plus its easier to ask for forgiveness than permission

Dan--married 5 years :D

The added ease of entry/egress will be the big selling point for this guy I'm guessing. That's half the reason the 60 is getting a set, It's my DD and it's now hard to get into without hopping. Iowa wheeling doesn't REQUIRE the use of sliders, but I suppose they'll come in handy one day.

Hey TT, since we are both into trout fishing perhaps I can help. I used to have a 60 series and wheeled it a bit getting into fishing holes. SOme of the trails were pretty tough but notning too crazy ( I thought).

It turned out that I had creased the rocker panel on one side and couldn't recall which trip I did it on but there it was next time I washed it. A big crease on the underside. Well that crease was starting to rust after a few years and the cost to fix was $$$$$!

When I told my wife that we needed sliders for the new (to me) 80 series she was very supportive after seeing the damage and big bucks spent fixing the rockers on the 60.

You're just bypassing 15 years and buying a 60 series and a bunch of bodywork. She's getting off easy.

Tight lines....

cruiserman- I think you are confused about trouser_trout's post- he did not state that he wants the sliders for additional protection in an accident. It is safe to assume *he* wants the sliders for their intended use offroad. He said the only way he can *get an okay from the wife* is by emphasizing the accident protection benefits to her. I thought that was pretty obvious from his post because he stated "The only way my wife will be convinced that the LC should have sliders is if I can show her how much more safe the truck wil be in the event of an accident." and NOT "I want sliders because they will protect me in an accident".

Dude,

Whose vehicle is this anyway? If it's yours, then buy what ever the hell you want for it. Doesn't your wife buy stuff w/o your consent so what's the difference here? Grow some cajones and just take the hit like a man :flipoff2: If she still has an issue, have her talk to my wife.

I've actually adopted this attitude after 20 years of marrage and all I can say is it has gone over like a fart in church.

But I do have my stuff on the truck.

You need to start when they are young :flipoff2: (married 15 years)

I view my Cruisers as a hobby... some hobbies are cheaper then others and I dont ask

Oh yeah, that too........:whoops:

My wife was watching a news story about side impact auto crashes. Back then, she drove a Honda Accord...me, the armored 80 (arb front, slee rear bumper, slee sliders). She asks how the Honda would fare. I tell her there would be considerable damage -- the Accord would probably be totaled, but hopefully everyome inside would be okay; Hondas are fairly safe cars. Then she asks what about the 80? I ask her what type of vehicle would be hitting me...she says, "oh, let's says a Ford Taurus." Given the height of the average car's bumper, the Taurus would probably impact right at slider height. Slider would take most of the impact -- 80 would start to slide. There would likely be some damage to the door(s), but the 80 with the sliders would fare much better than the Accord.

2 weeks later, we have a 2nd 80. It will get sliders, front and rear bumpers.

Anyone want to buy a really nice Honda with very low miles? :D

Only 5 years of marriage hear but I can say I think tank is right on the money here. I guess I'm just really lucky that my wife loves LC's and doesn't mind me spending money on them. She even wants our next truck to be a rock crawling :princess: 40 for her. I'm allowed to build it but she wants to wheel it  . Anyway they do provide great protection for alot of situations, just buy the damn sliders, no sex for a month or two isn't all that tough.................. :flipoff2:

Right on the money Doug.
Cheers,
Sean

My wife would rather have me spend money on my LC than play golf and get drunk I s'pose. At least this way she knows where I'm at all times! Besides, this is a vehicle that's used on all vacations so making it more capable and safer is alright in her eyes.

My favorite motto "it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission..."! :flipoff2:

Carry on,

Ali
