the 4.2 is a great engine but a slug compared to the 4.5...
but once a turbo/intercooler is added then all bets are off...

the front center unit is weak by design (yes, Toyota dropped the ball ...again.) but the elec locker up front is a lot stronger than the open...problem is, can you actually get a e/locker fro the front diff in that series?

I am going with arb's front and rear, so that should take care of any weakness im thinkin'.

is that a complete center unit or does it fit inside the original center? i can't remember... if it is a complete center then that will fix it, if it isn't then it won't ... it is the actual webbing design that sucks..

well locally here in Muscat info is limited

a 2 page brochure with the only listed option is Petrol or Diesel....he mentioned snorkel and aloys instead of the split steel standard rims.

It comes with LSD rear as standard and by the 4wd system diagram a central dif lock but it might just mean low range as there's no real info

The diesel is the 4.2 naturally asperated any good ? can a turbo be added later ? any one any idea on milage -ltrs per 100 km

the 4.5 efi is too thirsty for when I return to europe and die on my fuel bill every week

The 7* series doesnt have a central diff lock,it is part time 4wd
My 4.2 diesels get about 12.5 litre/100klms unloaded

Aussie brochure for the 7*
The bit about the difflocks is the bottom rh corner in the shaded section

i have been averaging better than that with the NA HZ but the HDT is right around the 12.5L/100

To get back to the wheels and tires for a moment...
I've got the factory 16 inch 6JJ wheels on my LJ78 and I'm wondering how wide I can go before I need to get larger rims. Will 255s or 265s fit? And if so, do they look weird, i.e unbalanced? Anyone got a pic of theirs with a similar setup so I can see what it would look like?

geolanders by far...
i never did like the BFG MTs...

but can you not get the symex tires there? i would be all over a set...
<note to self:
i should get Dave to stick a set of symex on my FJ75 before it is sent over...>

31 X 10.5 X 16
if your rims are the 6 or 6.5 then yes it will work.. to be honest i have used that tire size on all the stock rims with no issues...

I am based in Muscat and have just purchased a SWB 2010 LC 71 (brand new). I have fitted BFG 285x75x16's and they do rub/chafe unless you have a suspension lift. This tyre is fine on the road until you apply full lock and off-road they also contact the wheel arch. I have fitted flare to keep the tyres within the body work. In about a weeks time my new Aussie suspension shall be here and then the 71 shall be ready for off road. (Also fitted a full roll cage, cut of those stupid full sized rear doors, changed the whole instrument console so now also have a tacho, as well as numerous other odds and bits - rear locking diff should be here next month)

Running 33X12.50 on a .51 offset 15 x8 wheel. Tire crowns at 35 psi, rubs inner rear fender well ( kisses it and does not foul) and rubs off the undercoating every offroad trip. Front lugs rub the rubber shield that keeps the mud from entering the engine compartment. Does this on full lock just leaving my driveway.

A 15x10 rim with 4 inch backspace will rub the front tie rod bushing and places the tire an additional 1/2 inch closer inboard.

Go 17's not much issue then
