Good evening,
First post
i have a 1994 land cruiser

Sorry if this has been covered. So i had a valve cover leak and went through the process of removing hoses intake and throttle body, valve cover. I changed the gasket and reversed the process hooking everything back up. Went to start it and when i turned the key nothing turned over and the alarm went off. Not sure where i went wrong since there was only like 3 things that got unplugged. thanks for any insight

What were the 3 things you unplugged?

Did you disturb the fusible link on the positive side of the battery? (Disconnect the battery while you serviced?) You likely only should have unplugged the TPS, IAC, and VSV Sub harness plugs near the throttle body... If it won't even crank...check that fusible link and be sure it's good. Factory alarm or aftermarket?

I believe it’s factory alarm, yes just the 3 hookups on throttle body. I did not disconnect the battery.

One thing I forgot to mention, when taking intake apart like an idiot I unscrewed VAF connection before I saw the connection.

And to be more specific when I turn key the dash lights come on electronics work but nothing mechanical turns over.

I did change spark plugs and plug seals but made sure to put connectors back on in the correct order

Thanks again for all input

Which screws are you referring to on the VAF (Air flow Meter).... It might be the like the 3FE AFM where it is easily damaged if the screws are removed. Someone else will surely confirm

See Here:

Might be a dumb question but does your alarm system have a hood open sensor?

Good question I’m not sure about the hood sensor, it’s possible.Ya The 2 screws in the photo and I definitely pulled too hard getting the plug out so I’m going to try to re- solder the wires before buying a Chinese one since it’s discontinued.

Would that alone cause the motor from turning anything over?

Sorry that happened. The engine should crank over regardless

Distrubing the VAF terminals may well keep it from running, but that alone won't keep it from starting. Power to the starter comes from the battery throught eh fusible links. Do you have a MIL (the engine light) on the dash when you turn the key? You have to have that, or nothing will happen.

If you need a VAF, contact @slow95z for a replacement; it's unlikely that it can be repaired, at least not permanently.

Thanks @effjay80 I’ll keep that in mind, gonna pull it out tonight and see what I can put back together wire wise on the inside. I’ll also check voltage. Thanks guys

Oof, people still be forking with those VAF screws....Bavarian Restoration restores our VAFs. I had mine done because PO forked with the screws too. Not sure of their location to the fires and if they're affected, but they're in CA.

Ok a little update.

Last night I got it started and it idled around 1700 and puttered, I figure because of the VAF. So I pulled it and re-soldered the connections(first solder attempt ) reassembled and now the starter try’s but engine doesn’t turn all the way over
