My 1974 FJ40 has what I think is an unusual tub and I don't have the full history from the PO. I am looking to the mud community for some input. The tub appears to be custom fabricated (handmade) from welded 10 gauge (.135") steel plate. In the photos you can see the .200" thickness, minus ~.0625" Rhino Liner
which I have estimated at about .135".
Also note there are no ribs on the fender wells or bed itself and obvious weld seams. This in addition to the smooth bends where the side panels meet the tailgate area leads me to believe this is all 10 gauge steel, not a series of patch panels.
Has anybody seen anything likes this before and have an opinion on the origin? I love the durability aspects but a little disappointed with non-OEM look. Also not going to win any races with the extra weight I am carrying around.
-Thanks
