Headlight minder buzzer

I’ve done this with a buzzer and a diode in4004 or similar. All you are after is a 12 volt difference. So one wire from the buzzer to the headlight hot wire and on the other buzzer wire via the diode to switched 12 volts. Current draw is minimal so a relay is overkill.
when the headlight is on and the ignition is off, there is a 12 volt difference, buzzer sounds. When the headlight is on and the ignition is on, there is zero volts difference, buzzer is off.
when the ignition is on, and the headlight is off, the diode stops the volts going the “wrong” way. And the buzzer stays off.

Exactly! Thanks Dynosoar. I need to look through the rest of the less than $50 tricks.

Where did you land the headlight wire? After the switch or at the headlight fuse?

Kind of a long way to there a link to a link to in the first post in the thread then search for post 157 which turns out is 158. Just quoting the post makes it easy.

Headlight Warning Buzzer!!!!!

I did it again!! I left my lights on after driving through a daylight headlight section of road. When I got back to the car the battery was DEAD.
I charged it up overnight and then drove to Radio Shack, I purchased a Mini 12v buzzer (Part# 273000055)(NEW PART # 2730059). This is a very small less than 1 in (2.5 cm) box with two wires (black and red) coming out of it. My '82 has the old type glass fuses. '83 and later have the blade type (I believe).

Pulled the headlight (left) fuse and pushed it back in with the red wire between the fuse and the holder. Then I took out the Gauge fuse and did the same with the black wire.

Now if the ignition is in the ON or Acc. position and the headlights are on there is no buzzer. However, if you turn the ignition to OFF and the headlights are on you get a 75 db buzzer telling you to TURN OFF THE LIGHTS!!!!!

The cost of the buzzer is a whopping $3.29. They have fancy 2 tone buzzers and chimes if you want to spend between $6.00 and $9.00.

This is a super easy mod that will save you a lot of agrivation.

Same as dynosoar, right at the fuse box. But your wiring config may be a bit different. Experiment a bit

4kv breakers use sort of the same circuit. The breaker closed light is powered through the trip coil so you have some confidence the trip circuit has continuity. If you don't turn off the lights and the ignition is off, there is a current path from the light circuit to the load on the ignition circuit. Google HB Robinson fire 2010.

there is a post on here that contains the wiring diagrams for all 1970 -79 FJ's
it looks like the fuse block has switched (from the ignition) and unswitched (to the alternator-which is connected to the battery)
the wiring of the buzzer is similar to the seatbelt warning circuit.

I think you need a diode, but Dynosoar's example does not use one.

i dig your avatar

i did a ANYTIME Fog lamps MOD via a you tube video on my 2005 Tundra , it works like a charm

I purchased probably the cheapest alarm out there. Amazon product ASIN B01LAYWUDOWiring was straight forward. Soldered some longer 18 ga. wire to the short leads provided. I hooked the red wire to a lead from the front side marker light and the black lead went to the fuse box terminal for the wiper (switched 12 v.). Since the package came with 2 alarms, I thought about doing the same for the fog lights but now I think one alarm should suffice.
