I have been reserching Aux fuel tanks and it seems I would have to modify my exhaust that comes across the back. Can't really carry a spare can outside unless its mounted to the wheel.

Are there other aux type fuel tanks that go in the empty spot beneath the tub and above the rear axle esides the confer type?

I hate going wheeling having to worry about gas. I don't really want to carry 2 10 gal cans in the cab.

Interested in what other solutions are out there.

Right now leaning between an aux fuel tank (#1) or carrying a spare can on the tire (less range).

It's not that simple, I use a combination of a glass pipe and a turbo muffler to keep it queit while not impacting performance. You also don't want the exhaust coming out in front of the rear tire, that would be a safety issue.

Some say use an S-10 fuel tank in that empty space. May also be possible but a 70 series fuel tank might also fit there (if you have access to one). I have a ConFer but it precluded me from moving my rear axle back.
