Anyone know if I can use later FJ40 (1975 and up) windshield hinges on an early FJ40 (1970)?

They will hold the windshield up. But if you lower the windshield, it will overshoot the rest bumpers and the latches.

I have early hinges available for sale. Then again, I have thermostat housings and side mirrors too.

Thanks Mark. I managed to get my hinges freed up and working.

My dash pad had some Naugahyde covering on it. I tore it off. What's underneath is pretty bad. So, I'm after a dash pad. @65swb45 do you have any? Feel free to PM me.

I installed the front axle and hooked up the front driveshaft. Connected up more brake lines. I need to do the two front hoses then the brake plumbing is really done.

I also have a boatload of fluids to do. Engine oil, transfer case oil, tranny oil, both axles, brake master cylinder, clutch master cylinder, & coolant.

Oh, also have to bolt on my front shocks.

:)

My hinge paint match came up somewhat lacking. Got some different paint. I'll try again in a few days.

My second stab at hinge paint is not much better than my first.

This is my write up for the FJ40 Dash.

Just got my new dash pad then sanded and painted the metal insert/clip to keep it from rusting. This is a fj40dash.com dash pad. I really like the quality, flexibility and it seems like it would withstand the elements much better than OEM. By flexibility I mean it is more forgiving than OEM when someone puts their weight on it when getting out of the back seat. The fit and construction seem amazing. The price is great too.

There are just two things that don't bother me one bit but it may bother some. First, it's not OEM. Second, the finish is not completely uniform which is hardly noticeable. I am extremely pleased with it so far and would recommend to anyone looking for a dash replacement!

My project has been gathering dust for about six weeks while I been off doing other stuff.

Starting back in, I decided to pull the trigger on a new OEM dash pad from City Racer LLC @Racer65.

Also got his LED headlamps and adjustment screws, since I need to do some headlight work on the truck.

I'll try and add more updates in the very near future.

A few months ago, I was trying to get the bib re-attached. It was kind of a fight to get it all to come together. My buddy looked at it and suggested I loosen the bolts that hold the fender supports to the frame. So I removed them all, and put in new bolts. One original bolt was already snapped off. I was not able to extract the leftover piece. So I have one bad one.

Here's the driver side with fender removed when I was fighting with that snapped off bolt.

These dinky screws that my screwdriver is on are kinda buggered up. Anyone have some good ones?

Nice ! I got one of the FJ40dash's as well. I didn't like the finish and returned it

My wife said "Get the OEM dash. It's gonna be right in front of you while you're driving! Get the nice one!"

Trying to put my fenders and bib back together. Ideally, should these two lines align? I looked at earlier photos of my truck, before I disassembled the front, and they weren't aligned when I bought it. Are they supposed to align?
