Land Cruiser trim in traildust
Ideally premium package w/ the brown leather interior
$500 deposit placed August 7th with Molle Toyota in KC

I’m not the first on the list of cruisers there, but was told I was in the first dozen overall. No idea how my preferences affect that order

1958 in Trail Dust. Got second on the list at my local dealer in early September.

Just curious for you and others that say they have an "order" - is it really an "order"? Like, did they relay your information to Toyota in Japan and they have your vehicle in the queue to build (once they starting making them)? Or are you just on a list somewhere with your preferences noted?

Each dealer gets X number of allocation slots so you are theoretically reserving yourself a space on their slot list. This is really a thing between you and your dealer locally and has nothing to do with Toyota.

If the dealer has someone willing to pay more for it, they are under no obligation is live up to their end of the 'agreement'. Not that you even would know if they did unless you know someone who works there.

In the meantime they make a few bucks of interest off your so called down payment.

And no dealer has received a single allocation at this point - so it's really just a list.

I just wanted clarification on the "order" language that others are using. This doesn't sound at all like an order for a specific vehicle - built to your specification.

It sounds more like you are sharing your preferences for what you want with the dealer and when that dealer get an allocation they will likely call down the list (probably ignoring your preference) and you get to choose if you want to jump on the allocation or keep waiting. Or, perhaps they honor your preference and you only get a call when your specific match comes up in their allocation - which who knows how long that could take.

I think I got it.

Right but when they do then this list is supposed to get preference as first come...... But no, absolutely not an order nor is it a binding contact to buy / supply anything.

Someone who knows more can answer if their allocation is a build spot, like BMW does, or they get what they get.

Bingo, it’s a waitlist. I believe dealer can put in requests (not directly with toyota manufacturing, but with the overarching distribution for the region, I believe), and they can trade allocations with other dealers (e.g. one dealer might want Prius allocations while another wants 4Runner allocations)

I’m on a waitlist for a 1958, preference meteor shower. I’m approximately #30 on the list, but that doesn’t mean I will get the 30th LC the dealer gets…could be less could be more, depending on colors and configurations they get allocated and what people higher than me on the list put in their preferences/would be willing to accept.

I’m like 35th on a list for GX. I was told that pretty much everyone above me wants a Luxury or Premium. Since I’ve asked for an OT+ in Earth I was told it’s “possible” I bump way up the list because I’ve ordered something different than everyone above me.

So then…it just has to mean my dealer can secure that vehicle from other dealers at the same time the list is released.

You’re really fighting with other dealers too, not just your position on a single dealer’s list.

We put a deposit down on a 5th gen RX350h earlier this year and this is exactly how it worked.

The only specific beyond the model was that was it had to be Nori Green. We expected to wait it out. Then our dealer surprised us, another dealer wanted a specific RX from their lot and they made the trade to get our unit.

The Nori Green is a sweet color, btw.

Toyota/Lexus does not offer a customer order program like some other popular manufactures do. When you get on one of these wait lists you are asked to give your desired trim, options, color(s), etc and when the dealer gets one that is close to or matching your selections (and you're next in line) they will contact you.

I’m #5 at my local dealer. No money down. No trim preference asked as they don’t really have any more info yet than us. Told them I’d chose when pricing is announced. I’d guessing it will be a “LandCruiser” trim for me. I like the rectangle headlights better personally.

I’m anxiously awaiting being able to buy a 250 new. But I’m not willing to put down deposit a year + ahead of time. Been through that already with the bronco, c8, and Rivian. (Cancelled the Rivian reservation)

Dealer here too kmy name a month ago or so. I called yesterday to confirm they said they have my name on the list and that the list has gotten really long since I called. But no specifics. They are not taking any prefrences down she said they have no alocation numbers and no way to order still. So I am on a mystry list for who knows what! LOL

We went through this process with our Highlander Hybrid. We found that the smaller dealers get a small number of allocations for desirable models of popular vehicles (like the LC250 will be and our Highlander Hybrid was), and many go many months between getting any allocations for those models. The larger dealers will get far more allocations on the top-tier models. We were on a list for one dealership for almost a year with no movement. We finally gave up and called the largest dealer in our region. That same day they happened to have one that was kind of an unusual color and trim package and was rejected by the person above us - so it went to us. We're still on the "list" at the other dealer and we're now at 20 months (seriously). So either their list got lost somewhere or they have not actually gotten a Highlander Hybrid in almost two years.

Point of the story - avoid your local low-volume dealers if you want a higher-level trim and hit up the bigger dealers instead. You may need to get on multiple dealer lists if you want one with any sense of urgency. It's a bit frustrating but the reality of Toyota's production capacity and supply chain. At least market adjustments were not big for us, we paid $500 over MSRP for our Highlander.

Absolutely. It’s also going to be regionally skewed based on what sells.
For example: I guarantee a high volume dealer in Denver Colorado will get far more allocations than a high volume dealer in Kansas City, for example. (4Runners are one of the most popular cars here, and you also see a lot of 80s,100s, and 200s despite never being a high volume seller in the US)
