So what’s the consensus on GX550 OT vs LC250 LC?

They’re not that far apart on price. Need a new car “for my wife.”

Love the LC interior, love GX motor. Love Toyota design language, I find all Lexus’s ugly.

Unfortunately my heart is leaning towards LC, but I feel like objectively the GX is better.

Owning both an OT+ and a 1958, I can tell you they are two completely different vehicles in every way, except for body shape.

Drive them both, and decide from there.

GX more solid, quieter, feels way more firm and substantial. Feels like $80k+.

LC more fun, more straightforward, looser, louder, and yet still has the bells, whistles and mechanical tech anyone really needs.

Having the luxury of going back and forth between the two at will, I admit the LC makes me smile more, even if I realize I’m giving up power, sophistication and that firm feeling of Lexus ‘well-builtness’

It’s like two pairs of jeans. The LC is a comfy work pair you don’t mind getting dirty or wearing a couple times, and the GX is that nicer more expensive pair you wear to the office and maybe even tuck a shirt into.

I know you're comparing the LC trim as opposed to the 1958, but even then, I just can’t express enough how, regardless of overall looks, they are completely different vehicles offering completely different experiences.

Having had lots of time to test drive, over think, and over analyze the two I feel the same way as you. I really like a lot about the 250 but feel like it needs at least an option for the V6 and for it's position in the market really should come with the acoustic glass and quieter ride of the 550.

My LC Premium OTD price was $75k. A OT+ OTD price was $90k. Both cars were as fully loaded as you could get without racks and what not.

I picked the LC cause I couldn’t justify $15k for the GX. The GX is way nicer. But the LC was nice enough at its price point for me.

I drove both several times before picking up the LC last fall. Ultimately for me the physical buttons in the LC vs more on-screen in the GX won out and not feeling like the $15k difference to the GX was quite worth it. The LC is a lot of fun and I don't regret the decision. I also don't hate that I'm getting 20+ mpg around town with bigger tires and stuff on a roof rack.

GX: wait times, mark ups, availability, available color options, over aggressive sorority girl vibes. Cool SUV though. Wish i could have taken one for a test drive but they are near impossible to find in my area. Im sure the seats feel fantastic, I would have to get the OT+ (89kish) to get that better sound system

I'm a huge fan of the (above mentioned) physical buttons, Id actually pay extra for physical seperate controls (Don't tell Mr T )
Extremely happy with my "Micro Tank" Lc 250 hybrid with its "raspy" 4 banger and "anti hoarding" interior storage

I got a gx overtrail (non plus) for 75k. Got the v6, real off-road 33s, factory lift, ekdss, on board air, heated/ventilated leather sests, no useless third row, 9k+ towing capacity, heated steering wheel, skid plates, cool box(can’t believe how much I’ve used this feature)

Unless you are considering the 1958 the Lexus is a no brainer

I’m averaging 18.9 mpg and I drive fairly aggressively

Ditto. As anyone can tell, from my extensive previous Toyota/Lexus signature, I have owned my fair share of both. It wasn't even close for us, the GX Overtrail was the only option we would consider after test drives in both and discussions with owners. We pick ours up this week after a three-month wait, no markups.

My pop tried both and felt like the Land Cruiser was “very cheap.” He said that the GX was only car he’d buy for my mom other than a G63. He only drives high end German cars. I trust his intuition but man Lexus just screams chick car brand to me. It’s for my wife, and my brain says GX is the smart move. But that name! LAND CRUISER!

Opinions are a thing of course but man do I scratch my head when someone says they find the 250 to feel “cheap” but then say the 550 is somehow more solid feeling or more luxurious. 1958 aside I feel like they are pretty comparable in terms of luxuries and fit and finish. Lexus may be ever so slightly better but will stand firm on my belief that the 550 is step down for the brand when it comes to build quality and luxury.

Besides the obvious differences between the two, I would say that the Lexus has a touch better interior fit/finish and appointments. This shouldn't be a surprise to most, as that's always been the case.

In that case, you'd better get her opinion/impressions. Seems like a helluva lot of "car" for a woman. But then, perhaps she's another Janna Breslin. 😲

I like how she states "in the USA we get the watered down version of the Landcruiser"
Meaning the version without; 2"+ lift, 35"+ tires, rock sliders, front and rear bar with dual swing outs, roof rack, and beadlocks? 🤣 I don't remember anyone getting that version anywhere ever..
It's a good watch nonetheless, and for reasons she's fully aware of. Top end is too wide for the bottom end, we all have our preferences, who am i to judge? but then again i'm not picky.

I have to disagree with you here, @Specialeyes. Even putting out of my mind what Toyota is asking for these vehicles, it does look, feel and smells cheap. If Toyota were to make a Tacoma SUV in a base trim... that is what came into my mind when I sat inside a 250 (no idea if it was a 1958, Land Cruiser-Land Cruiser-Land Cruiser Edition or First Edition). It felt like a $40,000 vehicle. Coupled with the fact that it's not badged any differently than the flagship Land Cruiser we're used to in the US, it feels like a compromise and a dishonest leverage of the Land Cruiser name for the sake of high margins.

I have not gotten inside a 550, but maybe what's driving the praise for it over the Prado is it being equipped with KDSS, giving it a more solid/stable feel on the road at speed versus the boat-like sway that a lot of people have reported from the 250.

What do I know, though. 😂

It’s apparent you don’t know the global Landcruiser, they aren’t luxury vehicles, hence the reason the USA split Landcruiser into the LX line
250 isn’t a boat on the road, perhaps KDSS “rails better” and for that reason you have the GX Lexus

Oh, I agree, she needs a seat to match the plastic up top. Fun to look at regardless, which is likely the reason for 90% of her views lol.

Yep, ya got me. That's exactly what I was saying. "Land Cruisers only exist in luxury form" 😂

He was directing that at me Tex, not the youtube babe.
