Side trivia note for those that don’t know

2 zone HVAC models get 130A alternator and 3 zone have 150A
Still glad I went with the 240 amp alternator. But I also have my accessories pulling jucie like the twin ARB compressor, winch, aux lights, dual batteries, etc.

Pulling jucie takes lots of extra Amps from every article I've read! 🤣

Jokes aside, you are powering a respectable volume of equipment and is probably necessary. My radio volume rarely goes past 24 and I hardly ever power or charge devices via cigarette lighter or USB. Brake controller and camper running lights are the only additional draw I can think of.

Someday I'd like a winch...but then I'd have to find a reason to use it. 😮

Love that color! You might want to consider woolwax or fluid film for inside and outside of the frame, since you are in salt country

I am starting with a wire wheel and rust reformer for any corrosion on the underside, then I will go with a lanolin-based undercoating (I think). I need to re-watch the Project Farm video to make a decision. I know he also really liked the CRC undercoat.
 
If you are one of the poors like me, I have a brief write-up on a budget 2/3 row delete and sleeping platform on the other main GX thread:


You could do it for under $70 if you didn't use the Victory 4x4 3rd row delete kit like I did, and just used a couple of 2x4s on their side under a nicely routed piece of plywood to cover the area where the third row was.

If you aren't one of the poors then you probably already have something sussed out from Goose Gear or the like....
I am planning to keep the second and third rows in place for the time being and make the lowest-profile platform I can. I got started on that this weekend because I got a free sheet of plywood. I plan to post pictures of the build once I have everything together. LOL, I am definitely not plunking down $1-2k for a new platform, I am a hobbyist woodworker proficient enough to build cabinets and things like that so plywood boxes seem easy.

Thanks for the warm welcome, I will do my best to post mods and pictures, but for right now my bank account needs a break. Aside from a little diy platform, maintenance, and fuel, there won't be much in the way of mods for a while. I do need a roof rack/cross bars though, doesn't need to be anything super tactifancy, but I would like to put a ski box on the roof and the occasional sheet of plywood/lumber (I live 3 miles from lumber yard, and get really lazy about hooking up my folding trailer). After reading a few threads, it seems like the most cost effective solution would be LFD crossbars, or getting the prado/blackline roof rails and then there are more crossbar options. Are there any other sub $500 solutions (sounds like the OEM crossbars won't clear the sharkfin to haul plywood).

You can get hoses for the tip that allow you to spray inside the frame. I highly recommend that.

Take off 4R roof rails will also work and are similar in height to the Blackline rails. They are slightly shorter though and require putting some faith in silicone. Easy to find used for $30+ on FB.

Then any conventional aftermarket rack / crossbar should mount right up. Ironically, I'm not sure if the 4R OEM crossbars will work due to width issues though.

For 11 years I climbed under my Taco and Fluid Filmed it. When I sold it there was light rust starting on the door sills and tailgate. From the inside rusting to the outside. Had to look for it but it was there. With rust the main concern is areas that you can't see or easily get to. The frame didn't look too bad at least on the outside. Year and a half ago picked up my 19 GX and according to the service history had spent summers up in the Cities and winters down in Texas so hadn't seen salt. One of the main reasons for me buying it.

First thing did was clean the underside and take it in for NHOU Undercoating. NHOU is Fluid Film on steroids for over a year it was creeping UP on the outside of the vehicle. After watching a professional install it and spraying into areas I never thought about I will never do it myself again.

But the guy that did it near me moved back to Pa. so I'm looking for another place to have it done this fall. First year on my Taco I used CF2000 the Canadian snake oil and it was slightly better than FF but got expensive so switched to FF. I feel NHOU or Woolwax are better and stay around longer I skipped last year. Heck the NHOU was still coming out in places this winter. I did a rust test to destruction with several products almost 15 years ago and the CF2000 was just a bit better than Fluid Film. But FF worked as long as it didn't get washed off.

Big R Service Center up by you in Randolph was listed as a Woolwax applicator but they don't have it on their website any longer. Big R does lifts and rear ends they are highly regarded but not sure what they use for undercoating now. Later this summer I will call them and see. I may end up going across the River to Onalaska to EMN Paint Correction and Detailing. They will do FF, NHOU or Woolwax you pick. For prep work they say they use a air needle scaler, 20 years on ships in the engine rooms I have more time behind a needle gun removing rust than I care to admit. But what about inside the frame and panels? They are also spendy and start at ~$400. But to do it right, may be worth it.

Good luck and have fun with the new rig! Snow is melting never mind the 12" that is supposed to drop starting in a few minutes. Soon I will be running around Mn. Wi. and UP to break clay targets at side by side shoots with double shotguns. Mid Sept. I head to the Sunset Country of Canada chasing birds with the dog then the month of October at a cabin mid trail on the Gunflint. Hope to see you in the North Woods sometime.

Hi yall, I recently trimmed the front bumper on my 23 GX and was wondering if I can now fit bigger tires. I trimmed about 2 inches to bring the line to the bottom of the grill.

Currently I have 265/70/17 Wildpeaks At 3 on OEM TRD Pro wheels. I had to change out the bolt and do a little message to the fenders, but otherwise no rubbing. Stock height.

I was wondering if anyone has trimmed the front bumper and been able to fit bigger tires without having to do additional modifications, like body mount chop and at stock height.

I was hoping I could move up to 275/70/17 or 285/70/17 with my front bumper trimmed and no additional work.

Any feedback from others on if either bigger size would work?
 
The TRD Pro wheels might work with a proper alignment. Just depends if the tech can do it and if your particular truck has the room to, but ultimately the front isn't normally the problem. I did a BMC on mine because I knew I was going to eventually, and I fit 285/70s on stock height for quite some time with -10 offset wheels.

In other news, found a friend today. These things are huge stock.

Currently I have 265/70/17 Wildpeaks At 3 on OEM TRD Pro wheels. I had to change out the bolt and do a little message to the fenders, but otherwise no rubbing. Stock height.

I was wondering if anyone has trimmed the front bumper and been able to fit bigger tires without having to do additional modifications, like body mount chop and at stock height.

I was hoping I could move up to 275/70/17 or 285/70/17 with my front bumper trimmed and no additional work.

Any feedback from others on if either bigger size would work?
Check out this vid for strategies on fitting larger tires. It's based on a tundra, but the startegies are similar for any Toyota IFS platform.

Trimming the bumper does not necessarily give way for larger tires, but it DOES help in your approach angle. And on that note, you may want to trim the rear bumper also.
Regarding tire size, unless you plan on a tire carrier hanging out back, or you don't care about have a spare, you may consider what is the largest tire that'll fit in the factory spare location. If in the future you plan on going larger still, you'll need a BMC, a very common and simple mod for both the GX's and 4R's.
Also depending up how wide your tires are you may need to get a heat gun and reshape the inner fender panels a wee bit.

The approach angle is why I did and also some parts of my tire would rub, which is why I was hoping if anyone else had done a trim, if they had fit bigger tires.
You're spot on about the spare, my current 265/70/17 would not fit until I had driven about 10K miles on them, I can forget about 275/70/17 fitting there. I had a 4Runner for 5 years and never needed it, so I think I can risk it for a while until I figure out what kind of spare tire carrier I would want to get.

Im not very knowledgeable but mainly I just want more height from tires as they move the entire car up the easiest way versus getting a lift kit. I don't mind skinner tires as well.

Given that shops won't install tires to test it out, just looking for data from others on what worked and what didn't before I decided to get a new set of tires.
