Install tip

I have gotten some feedback from CycloSteve about his experience installing the harness.

The blinker pins are a tight fit. Once you slide the new terminals into the housing, use a small flat point screwdriver to press down the locking pins.

on my instal, I was a little overzealous removing my pins and had to press them back down. I did not think about it until Steve Pm'd me.

We have contacted Gary to advise him of this.

The press down trick works effort

got my turn/running light harness today in the mail , of course I had to work late and now its dark and raining at the moment

Maybe try in the morning before work for the install

Thanks again for following thru on these Stu and running with it

Drove my rig last night, and damn, those new blinking side markers are bright and excellent. This is a definite must-do modification just for the safety sake itself, especially if you have an aftermarket bumper which in any way obscures your OEM blinkers.

As Stu said, the pins for the blinkers take a little coaxing to get them locked in place, but I am confident most folks will not have issues with this at all.

Definitely happy with this without any reservations, and even the :princess: thought it was a good modification ;).

Steve,

Great to hear. Are you running clear or amber lens??

I really like the amount of light when the hazards are on.

Glad you like them.

Installed mine this evening , as other said the turn signal pins are a bit on the tight side but I was able to get it all done in about an hour . The hardest part was pulling the side marker housing out on the DS as the pin was a little rusty so it didn't want to pull out of the plastic clip .

It now is much easier to see the signals with the ARB on ,but even without the bar in stock form it was poor .

With the disco mod I did some time ago I'm very happy with both :bounce:

Good to hear Todd...

I am running standard US-spec amber lamps on my truck, though clears would be nice. Drove it again last night, and just amazed with the amount of light the blinkers give off. I live in the countryside where there are no lights other than you and your rig. You really do not realize how bad the OEM design was until you upgrade.

Just wait until you see them in fog.

Ordered mine on 6/4, received yesterday 6/16, installed today 6/17, everything works as advertised. :) Whole install took less than 30 minutes.

I did have an issue installing the new pins into the blinker light plug. :meh:

The little plastic 'hooks' of the re-used blinker plug did not want to seat into the recessed portion of the new pin. I shoved the new pins as far into the plug as physically possible, but they wouldn't 'click' in. With a bit of coaxing, more pushing, mangling, I managed to seat them as best as possible and then replaced the white insert to ensure they wouldn't back out. Anyone else have this challenge? Any advice?

FYI, I used a combo of three sizes of cheapo jewelers flat head screwdrivers as terminal pick tools. Work perfectly to remove the pins. The side marker light pin exchange was far easier. Glad this is done. Thanks Ebag333, Otamiway and Gary for making this a reality.

Me too, with emphasis on the mangling part...;)

Guys thank for the posts.. Check out post #283 for the tips on the stubborn pins.

I have contacted Gary and he is looking into getting a different pin.

Calling arb owners - part duex

IH8MUD family, gary is ready to develop the ARB Harness and looking for input.

How would like to see the harness developed??

1. Additional pigtail
1a. Marker only
1b. Signal only
2. Disco mod pigtail

Please let me know what you think. I am also looking to hand off the ARB Development since i do not have one as of yet.

Mine took a bit more than this, hence the mangling, etc. part in my post. I had to push back on the locking tabs also before the pins would start to go down. Then I could push them down with the small screw driver.

Considering how easily the side marker pins clipped in, it's good that Gary is looking into different pins for the turn signal connections.

BTW, thanks again to all who have worked on this. It's really made the set up how it should have been from Toyota.

I would be willing to be the ARB guinea pig

As for which version...Right now I have the disco mod but honestly, with the side marker becoming a turn signal I'm thinking having the ARB lights become marker only would be fine. I'm thinking having 3 lights blinking up front might be overkill

Let's see what the consensus is unless Gary wants to offer 3 different versions. I'm happy to test all 3 versions if he wants to develop them.

Worked on mine today and found the terminals/pins are definitely a different style. The pics I had posted previously were from an earlier 80-series, and match the marker lights (and what Gary provided). This means you guys with earlier models won't have any trouble.

It looks like the break point for these lights/harnesses is between FJ80 ('91-'92) & FZJ80 ('93-'97). My thought is that Gary may have to offer a couple different options based on year. I am willing to send the 2 different stock harnesses I have to Gary, but I was thinking it might be best to let Stu continue to be the contact person on this.

I too mangled my turn signal connectors and even went so far as to order new ones..hoping the pins would fit. I'm doing this on a '97 LX450. The pins aren't clicking in and so the connectors aren't clicking together fully.I had an extra harness from replacing a window motor and it had the same connector. I took a shot of the pins for comparison side by side. I'd be happy to buy another harness with the right pins once this subtle difference is solved. In the meantime I put some dielectric grease in the connector and zip tied them together. So far so good. Pics attached for your reference. Hope this helps.
