I have been told that HF Cat is a huge waste of money by guys in the exhaust manufacturing industry. The headers will add decent amount of power (15+). The cat back is up to you, but mostly sound. The cats that Toyota use are not restrictive at all, last a life time, and they are expensive. So you can replace the headers and then spend the money on remote reservoir shocks...

did you drop the 100 off yet? JW

So for the most part, you are just installing the headers and that's it?

I have a rattle that is no the shield, thinking 200k on them and now broken internally.

Are there 2 resonators and 2 cats?

I could loose 3 and go with one?

Maybe after 200k your CAT is shot but from what I am told it is not that restrictive. Hopefully you can find an inexpensive option that will be state emissions compatible. In CA the emissions tests are ridiculous so nobody wants to mess with that thing. I can ask Doug Thorley what they would do if they had a destroyed or busted up CAT when I am back there to pick up the truck next week. As for mufflers and resonator, pick your poison and sound.

ahhhh Sound................. i would like a sound that does not say cherry bomb or flow master, yet something that has a tone, rumble to be heard but not drive me batty on the road as I don't have that radio on when I am exploring.

the limited experience i have with headers and catbacks, a tacoma and 85 4runner, both installed in stages: the header made most of the performance difference, the hi flo cat not much, and the pipe size a little more - mostly the header(s). look through any cat, you should see daylight, i think its just a box with mesh in it.

That's what I have now and it is not quiet! I think you're asking a lot for a single box to take all the noise out when the headers would make more noise anyway. I hate how mine sounds around town (look at me everyone ) but love it on the open road when I'm thrashing it :D Also the OEM main box is massive and has some kind of spring loaded bypass valve in it so a typical size aftermarket box isn't going to be as quiet as the OEM main box by a long way I would think.

Shane, on the x-over pipe from the DS to the muffler section check for a small heat shield. That lil fkr drove me nuts cuz I thought it was the cat ones.

I am on the list for a set( I guss this is my reconfirmation) ... any ETA? Anyone know how these are coming along?

I should have an update Thursday night when I pick up the truck. After that it should be 6-8 weeks for production sets.

I am not complaining.. just surpised by the length of time it takes to produce them... I figured in todays highly advanced computer age, that once a set is built, they just do so some computer modeling... send that info to a tube bender etc, and it would spit out headers...

I guess they still have to make jigs etc... SIcne they are from Thorley, they will be worth the wait.

I agree, but think there is more hand fabricating than automation. Also they will have to order the flanges and parts from various suppliers before starting production, then they have to send them out for coating etc... Definitely worth the wait though.

If all goes well with the test set and pricing is reasonable, I'm up for a set. No, I didn't read the entire thread so I don't know if pricing is set or not...

I'm still in and waiting to be told who to give my credit card number to.

DesertRun: Any photos and update on the headers and the fitment?

Sorry for the lengthy silence. I have been out of town...

I picked up the truck last Thursday. They showed me the headers rough tacked but in final shape. Not sure when production sets will be available, but should be 6-8 weeks. The dyno tests will be done before and after the final install so no results yet. The designer said the passenger side was easy and the driver side more challenging due to the steering as everyone predicted. They had to run one tube high to give the clearance, but seemed pleased and agreed that the stock headers are a joke. I will let everyone know when I hear from them again.

That's great news.
