Very nice Build thanks

well its been raining on and off last week so i decided to put the paint on hold and get started on a fj60 front axle swap, outboarding the front hangers and doing a cut and turn on the axle anyways ill post up some pics in the next few days

Would love to see pics of how you do your outboarding of the spring mounts. I am collecting parts to do the same axle swap and appreciate all pics I can see. The more informed I am the better.

Lookin' good!

Where'd you source that aircleaner and how do you like it? I've been considerig different options for mine - the stock one is butt ugly. Is that a Taurus fan? (if I missed this in the build write-up, sorry) I don't know if you put any miles on it yet but I would be curious to know how it does.

Ed

outboarding pics will be coming soon got the shackle hangers done yesterday and theyre beefy ;-).

aircleaner is from jegs its an airraid junior kit got it in hopes of connecting a hommade snorkel to it down the road

yes its a 2spd taurus fan from a 3.8 litre v6 and never had any probs with its performance it works great and motor warms faster with it also. havent had a chance to drive it too far but around the block here sure has sum power after half an hour or so it pops the eng light, not sure why but i have th vss from jtr just havent hooked it to the harness yet and not sure but maybe my computer needs to be swapped for one from a manual

front hangers are tacked in place and shackle hangers welded up still gotta figure out what im doing with the front ones for bracing because the bolt for my steering box is right in the middle of where my gusset would go.thinking of sleeving the hole out some more so it can go though the gusset and using a longer bolt also gotta do something with the ends of the bumper. well lets see what I come up with today

steering dilema

well ive got the front axle all together and its looking sweet the knuckle gussets I made clear really tight with no steering stops:D shock mounts clear the steering arms and the brake line mounts are good.

the s***ty thing is my drag link sits too low on the knuckle and hits the spring at rest. I was thinking I could bend the pitman arm up a bit or bend the 4x4labs steering arm up where the drag link mounts, what do you guys think? bend the cast arm or the cold rolled hysteer arm??? another idea guess I could try to find a dropped pitman arm reverse ream it for 1ton ends and mount the dl on top of the arm?? any ideas

I found a pitman arm at a pic-n-pull that just might be what you need. It is an almost flat arm with the drag link end reamed to put the rod on top in your situation. It came off a later model (96 or newer) Astro van with all wheel drive. In your situation it would set with a 3/4" drop with the drag link on top of the arm. But it is only 6" long. I don't know if that would be too short. If your high steer arm is set up with a 7" offset from the knuckle pivot (like stock) I don't know how the 1" difference would affect the steering.

I think the pitman arm needs to be about 7 inches long so that it doesnt angle back from the steering box to the axle too much its already a couple inches forward of the axle, also I think a shorter arm will give less sweep not sure if that will affect anything and I might be getting more than the axle can handle right now with the 7 inch pitman

think ill send an email to 4x4labs and see what they think of bending the right side arm up a bit to clear the leaf pack

got impatient so I heated and bent the arm today everthing clears nice now i need to get a longer tie rod

well found someone to make a custom length tie rod 1.5 3/8wall (overkill) and he made it 4 inches too short! s***ty luck i have had to drive over 100K to pick it up too. gotta call him on moday to get him to make a new one

other than that got the front hardlines done andgetting started on some more of the painting. gotta get this thing on the road by august:steer:

update:

got the tie rod sorted out ;-) finished PAINting everything except the inside of the hood gotta finish that and then start assemBLING this pig.

pics of a shiny green gruiser coming soon!

well its all back together now and been test drivin around the block. theres a few bugs to work out but for the most part its good

still need to get rid of death wobble not sure what it is at this point I just put a axle new housing in aswell as cut and turned to 4 deg with no stabilizer also thinking tires must be a factor in this

other than that just need to figure out why I keep getting code 44 on the tbi its got a brand new heated o2 from howell and everything is tight no vac leaks good gronds guess ill try a new pcv maybee. maybee the 02 is faulty?

and some small stuff like adding bump stops on the front and realigning some of the front end sheet metal also gonna make some widshield rests out of some nice cedar or something to mount on the hood

Let me me know what you come up with. I get the same code - 44 is for "lean exhaust." Interestingly, when I took it to get smog tested I found that it was running very rich, at least at idle, with very high CO. My o2 sensor was brand new also and seems to read fine when I check WINALDL. Have also checked for vacuum leaks but nothing. I've reinstalled the emissions stuff (EGR, cannister, etc,) but hasn't corrected the prob.

I have a couple of other thoughts on what it could be, however, I have my rig all broke down for paint right now so it will have to wait.

BTW, lookin' good!
