GDenver, a few quick questions:

1) Did you go with that lseat.com website for your seat covers?
a) What was the fit and finish like on them? (pictures please!)
b) What do the backs of the front seats look like? How did they address the net carrier behind the seat?
c) Did you need foam cushions too? If so, where did you find them?
2) I have the same color interior (tan/brown). What color did you order to match the existing color scheme?
3) Where did you get your steering wheel from?

Nice build and thanks for your time!

I have yet to make it to the seat install. When I make it that far, I will update you.

The steering wheel is from Ebay, but you can find them from multiple sources. Loving it so far! The steering wheel is so important to me, as a driver it's what we see, touch, and feel most. I have Momo wheels in all of my other cars.

Lots more goodies ordered, and spent the day working on the truck again!

I could tell the alternator was on its way out. The lights would dim at idle, so would interior lights if they were on so I tackled the battery and charging system.

Installed a Odyssey battery, and a new alternator. While I had it apart, I threw a new air filter in:

Hopefully I can throw the snorkel on this weekend. I also noticed some of the vacuum lines were splitting near the nipples, so I want to go through all the soft lines and see what needs replacing...

More goodies for her 200k mile birthday. Got a new windshield installed. 0 rust behind it even though the windshield had been replaced before. Felt good to see that, even though the car has 0 rust I was nervous about that after reading some peoples stories about replacement windshields.

Also Installed a led lighted reverse camera and high quality 7W bright led reverse lights. Huge improvement !

More coming next week.

Love that Android DIN replacement ... wish it would work with the NAV-based I have in my LX470.

As nice as you have your LX, you need to replace the two rusty screws holding your License Plate. Just nick picking :)

It's coming, I didn't want to put those screws back in even temporarily. . I haven't really started on the exterior of the car, still working on the interior, stereo, and mechanical aspects. It's either getting custom paint or a vinyl wrap, and lots of little details on the outside.

I did the Leatherique system on the back seat since I wont be reupholstering it. This stuff is amazing, left it on for 3 days. It feels and looks like new again. Also shampooed the carpets and put the new mats in:

Still a long way to go on the interior, but getting closer.

I also installed all new heater hoses and replaced the factory style ones with upgraded hps silicone hoses. All factory clamps were replaced with high quality worm clamps, and new stainless steel heater t's. OEM toyota coolant flush when I put it all back together. Still need to go through more hoses, but replaced most of the water hoses with this kit.

That's it for today....

Installed the clear corners and fixed a broken headlight tab. Clear corners really help update the look of the car. Also ordered new led turn signal bulbs:

Do you have a part number or source for clear corners. About to do the Slee bumper and it requires new corner lights.

I don't, the seller I bought them from no longer sells them. They are a reproduction light, medium quality IMO. Really look good however! I believe Depo makes them? You can find a number of different sets on ebay for under 100 usually. There are oem clear corners as well, I just don't like the look quite as much. I kept my lx470 lights, and modified the wiring and converted my running lights to turn signals, so these are the lx470 style lights. I think you need to convert to the land cruiser style for what slee is suggesting, I would check with them however.

Not much of an update, but I added chrome a Lexus emblem to the steering wheel. My custom steering wheel dreams are finally realized. Hard to believe this started with a ugly, worn brown leather steering wheel.

Still need to get the seats in, but I am almost there on the interior. Next project is new front rotors and ebc green stuff brake pads, hopefully I can have this thing stopping a bit quicker.

Hey. In a weird coincidence, I just traded in a 2006 BMW 750 for a 2000 LX470. I also live in Denver.

A couple of questions:

1) I am about to pull the trigger on the LSeat.com seat covers. Any chance I could look at yours? Do you like them enough to put them on, or are they just fair? I found a guy that will put them on for $200, but it'd be great to know if they are horrible.

2) Who did your windshield? Mine is improperly installed with screws and makes a lot of noise at highway speeds. I want to find someone in Denver who will do it right. Can you recommend anyone?

3) Do you have a link to the steering wheel? How much time did it take to take it apart and put back together?

Thanks!

I have yet to install the Lseat.com covers, but based on how they look in the box I'm extremely impressed with the quality for the money. They look like they are very well built. If you are super curious, I can try and coordinate for you to come take a look. Who had you talked to for a $200 install? I'm going to be super picky with the seats, I hate when aftermarket covers end up with wrinkles.

I will have to look at who did the windshield, but mine uses screws as well. It was already replaced and had screws, but in my application they seem to work very well with no wind noise. There is a gasket that goes on top of where the screws/rivets would go. are you missing this?

The steering wheel was sourced from Ebay. They usually run between 2-300.

Good luck with the new cruiser!

There is a guy named Denny Guttierez over off of Santa Fe and Evans that has a small upholstery shop. I used him recently to sew in a panel on my Acura MDX seats. While I watched, he was able to remove the driver's seat from the car, uninstall the seat cover, repair the seat cover and reinstall the seat cover and seat in about 60 minutes. From this, I believe he should be able to do the seat covers competently. If you want his contact info, I can share it with you over private message. (I don't know if he wants his information published on the Internet.)

Yes, I would like to see the LSeat.com seat covers in person to gauge their quality and see how closely the color would match the rear seat. If you wouldn't mind sending me a phone number via private message, I will contact you off line. Thanks!

Not trying to piss on your parade, but I would be very opposed to putting a metal object on top of an explosive device, and then pointing it at my chest...

That's the difference between you and I. It's plastic, and the weight is next to nothing. It's the same way in the 2001+ cars from the factory, just a plastic emblem glued to the airbag cover.

Today I did rotors at all 4 corners, new rear calipers, bled the system, and ebc green stuff pads. Hopefully these pads improve the brakes a bit, I've never loved the brakes on this car. It also was a good time to inventory what the front end needs to make it perfect. Added sway bar bushings, outer tie rods, steering rack, steering rack bushings to the list. I'm back in town for a bit so I am going to try and make some progress in the next couple weeks.

Today I put in new front sway bar bushings and links. Ended up taking me longer than I thought it would because of a bolt that broke from being old and frail. Welded a nut on, it snapped again. Did that a second time broke again and it ended up needing to be drilled out. I used OEM inner bushings and moog outers.

I assumed my awful steering feel was from the steering rack that needs replacing, but it looks like a huge part of that was from the essentially non existent sway bar bushings all around. Most of the squeaking from the front end is now gone as well. This is a 1998, and has 199k miles, PSA for anyone who is still rolling around on old bushings. Looks like these had never been changed. At this point I have just decided to replace every front bushing or ball joint, and the steering rack with poly bushings still needs to go in.

I also got the Lseat.com leather installed, i'll snap some pics for everyone when I get a chance.
